Machinist Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

Internship for individuals enrolled in a precisions manufacturing program or equivalent. Will be responsible for machining new and repaired engine components and working under the supervision of a higher skilled Machinist.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Setup and operation of manual mills and lathes
• Setup and operation of CNC mills and lathes
• Machining of metals and plasma/flame spray coatings
• Measurement of all machined features
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery.
• Complete daily maintenance and repair logs.
• Communicate with operators from other shifts.
• Maintain and secure work tools.
• Clean and maintain work area.
• Perform back-up for assembly line.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be enrolled in a precision machining program or equivalent
• Basic reading, writing, and some advanced arithmetic skills required
• Completed basic lathe training for safe operation of equipment
• Experience using one or more of the following tools: lathe, milling machine, drill press, and vertical/horizontal cut off saw.
• Ability to read, interpret, and create blueprints and schematics.
• Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 30 pounds. Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors and steel toe boots. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
