Job Description

We are currently hiring a Product Development COOP for our Research & Development Laboratory Operations Team at the Sam Adams Boston Brewery (SABB) in Jamaica Plain, MA*. This position is from July-December.

*This role is full time on site, which requires that our coworkers reside within commuting distance to be onsite 5 days per week.

BBC will provide CO-OPs with meaningful learning, social, and networking experiences, exposure to real life business challenges, platform for creative thinking, and opportunity to work alongside and learn from BBC coworkers cross functionally.

By the end of CO-OP, students will have learned and gained core project management skills, marketing, and core business acumen, built relationships with our teams, have exposure to customer and consumer feedback, develop product launch support and marketing campaigns, and develop other marketing functional skills (depending on department placement).

This position is responsible for assisting the Research Brewery in the execution of trial work and all brewing activity associated with it. As instructed by the Research Brewer, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily execution of all brewing functions, monitoring brewing quality, and ensuring safe and sanitary working conditions at all times.

This is a full-time position, and the brewing team hours are 6:30am-2:30pm.

What You'll Brew:



  • Gather, weigh, and process raw ingredients per recipe specifications
  • Monitor yeast health via daily cell counts
  • Cleaning & sanitation of fermentation tanks
  • Pull and package samples for quality and sensory analysis
  • Clean / fill kegs and support CIP and sanitation for the keg filler
  • Collect and compile data for trial work and special projects
  • Design and complete term project per review of Research Brewer
  • Promote high product quality achievement within a professional work environment
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices and overall brewery sanitation and safety

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must be a student currently enrolled in following Undergraduate Majors: Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Chemical Engineering are highly recommended.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be able to commit to a 6 month Co-Op Cycle
  • Must be able to commute daily to Boston Brewery in Jamaica Plain, MA.
  • Must not require sponsorship to work in the United States, now or in the future

  • Ability to work in a flexible and changing schedule
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be attentive to all aspects of the manufacturing environment while working
  • Is self-motivated, constant focus on raising the bar & high Sense of urgency
  • Identifies problems, evaluates several options and recommendations, and supports a solution
  • Stays focused on the real problem and does not become easily sidetracked
  • Ability to see the larger picture and keeps this in mind when making decision
  • Home brewing or other progress towards brewing experience a plus

In accordance with pay transparency laws the pay range for this role if hired is $18 - $20 per hour. However, it's important to note that where the person hired starts in this range is dependent on their related experience, skillset and location.
