Designs, implements, and supports solutions to integrate voice, video, and collaboration systems within the UMass Memorial enterprise including corporate offices, conference rooms, classrooms, theaters, and event spaces. The role involves integrating hardware and software components to create seamless, functional Audio Visual (AV) solutions that meet the specific needs of clients or internal stakeholders. The AV System Engineer must ensure the proper functioning of these systems, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support to clients or users.

Summary:

Designs, implements, and supports solutions to integrate voice, video, and collaboration systems within the UMass Memorial enterprise including corporate offices, conference rooms, classrooms, theaters, and event spaces. The role involves integrating hardware and software components to create seamless, functional Audio Visual (AV) solutions that meet the specific needs of clients or internal stakeholders. The AV System Engineer must ensure the proper functioning of these systems, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support to clients or users.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Works with clients, stakeholders, and design teams to determine AV system requirements based on functional needs and space specifications.
  • Designs detailed AV system layouts, including equipment placement, cabling, and integration points.
  • Creates documentation for system design, specifications, and project plans.
  • Installs and configures AV equipment, including projectors, displays, microphones, audio systems, video conferencing tools, and control systems.
  • Implements networking and cabling for AV equipment, ensuring clean and organized installations.
  • Performs rigorous testing of AV systems to ensure full functionality and performance.
  • Calibrates audio and video equipment for optimal quality (e.g., sound balance, screen calibration).
  • Conducts troubleshooting and resolve any technical issues during the testing phase.
  • Provides ongoing support for AV systems, addressing technical problems and ensuring systems operate at peak performance.
  • Performs regular maintenance, including software updates, hardware upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Documents technical issues, resolutions, and system changes for future reference.
  • Leads or assists with project management activities, ensuring AV projects are completed on time and within budget. Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards during installations and project execution.
  • Provides training to clients or end-users on how to operate AV systems effectively.
  • Develops user manuals and technical documentation to assist clients with system use and troubleshooting.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology field or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • CCNA.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • Five (5) years of experience in AV system design, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AV control systems (e.g., Cisco, Crestron, AMX, Extron).
  • Familiarity with networking protocols and integration, including IP-based AV solutions.
  • Expertise in audio and video equipment (e.g., microphones, speakers, cameras, projectors, displays).
  • Strong knowledge of AV design software and CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio).
  • Understanding of IT networking, signal flow, and IP-based AV systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, project managers, and technical teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work may involve lifting and installing AV equipment or climbing ladders for ceiling-mounted components.
