PRIMARY FUNCTION

Sets up and operates a variety of machine shop tools to make or repair all types of metal parts and equipment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Lathes, universal mills, drills, mig welders, grinders, saws, etc.; micrometers, hoists, dial indicators, verniers, layout tools, etc.

SAMPLE WORK PROCEDURE



  1. Reads and interprets prints, making necessary mathematical calculation to layout stock or damaged parts.
  2. Uses hoists to position work piece. Correctly aligns and fastens work piece into machine.
  3. Sets up and operates all types of machine shop equipment.
  4. Observes work piece and verifies conformance to specifications throughout the operation.
  5. Re-grinds and sharpens tools as required
  6. Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment
  7. When required, spot welds
  8. May turn and undercut commutators
  9. Obeys all safety rules and performs housekeeping assignments
