Sr. Chemist BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors. Position Summary BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Chemist to join our team in Norcross GA office (preference) and/or remotely, providing technical support for environmental remediation projects. Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Review contractor-generated technical documents which will require a cursory review of environmental laboratory data packages and data validation reports; documents are from various Air Force Bases nationwide and may include UFP-QAPPs, Site Closure Plans, Groundwater Monitoring Reports, Remedial Action Plans, Corrective Action Reports, RCRA Facility Investigations Reports, Assessment/Site Inspection Reports, Long-term Monitoring Reports, Work Plans, Landfill Reports, and Remedial Investigation Reports
- Review documents for technical adequacy and submit detailed chemistry-related technical comments to the Lead Reviewer on the team
- Validate data for government and private clients and write corresponding reports using industry standard levels of validation stages as needed
- Solicit input and make contributions to writing and updating QAPPs
Key Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
- Certification: Must hold a certificate in USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors Training (maintain valid 5-year certificate) or obtain certification within 60 days of onboarding; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Knowledge
- Proficiency in performing Level 4 data validation, including for PFAS, is required
- Ability to follow DoD Data Validation Modules, DoD Quality System Manuals (QSMs), and EPA National Functional Guidelines for Organic and Inorganic Data Review guidelines in the production of work products
- Understanding of laboratory quality control used for environmental analyses across a broad spectrum of instrumentation and media
- Familiarity with and understanding of analytical methods including, but not limited to, methods EPA 1633 (and PFAS by QSM Table B-24); EPA SW-846 Methods: 6010, 6020, 7470, 7471, 8260, 8270, 8015, 8081, 8082, 8280, 9056, 9060; and RSK-175 and Standard Methods
- Knowledge of electronic data deliverables with database experience (i.e., use of EQuiS or FUDSChem platforms)
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Software: Proficiency using MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and portable document format (PDF)
- Self-Starter and Team Player: Highly motivated, with the ability to perform at a high level of quality with minimal supervision; ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team of individuals to meet the needs of our clients
Experience & Education
- Experience:
- A minimum of 5-15 years' experience as an Environmental Professional, including demonstrated chemistry skills needed for environmental remediation work with knowledgeability of Air Force Environmental Restoration Program and Remediation activities
- A minimum of 5-10 years' experience conducting multiple levels of data validation, up to and including detailed reviews of full laboratory data packages (equivalent to Stage 4 reviews of Level 4 data packages)
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Environmental Chemistry from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university is required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time
