The Opportunity with McKinstry

We're currently seeking a Design Phase Manager to join our National Design Build team. In this role, you will help manage and develop the internal preconstruction team while you leverage and collaborate with key partners in across operating groups. Some responsibilities you will have include:

  • Manage all aspects of the design phase process for all trades for projects assigned.
  • Leveraging and collaborating with all stakeholders on a pursuit/project - internally and externally.
  • Ownership and responsibility of the project during the preconstruction and design process to ensure the success of projects transitioning from the preconstruction phase to the construction phase.
  • Prepare estimates using McKinstry conceptual estimating platforms, as needed for projects.
  • Manages conceptual and quantitative estimating processes for projects assigned.
  • Overall and complete ownership and responsibility of the project.
  • Setup of appropriate meetings to keep project successful and the client well-served.
  • Be proactive about developing new methods and techniques that will drive design phase management results on current projects and future projects.
  • Train team members on cost and estimating methods and platforms.
  • Collaborate with other business units and preconstruction team members across the company.
  • Develops, coaches, and manages team members assigned to your projects.
  • Assist in driving technology initiatives into processes for the group.
  • Business development expected with key clients/pursuits.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently - sometimes last minute in support of pursuits, interviews, and business development activities. This will require a certain amount of flexibility in schedule.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency for all the responsibilities of a Preconstruction Manager.
  • Demonstration of leading overall preconstruction process on a project required.
  • Demonstration of training in Relationship Management / Building.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction management or equivalent business experience.
  • Experience in design-build construction required.
  • Knowledge of general building systems, structural components, civil, mechanical, life safety, and electrical systems required.
  • Ten (10) years of experience with a general contractor (or MEP contractor) required with extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems / engineering and estimating.

The pay range for this position is $84,240- $130,680 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
