We are seeking a dedicated and detail oriented Clinical Data Analyst to join our team!

In this role, you will be responsible for collecting and submitting reliable data to the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP). This role involves high-quality data compilation, documentation, and entry into the ACS NSQIP database for all eligible surgeries performed at our hospital. The Clinical Data Analyst will work closely with the Department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and participate in special projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Identifies surgical patients for inclusion in the Program through the application of Program inclusion/exclusion criteria and protocols.

  • Collects preoperative, operative, and postoperative data components for the Program through the effective utilization of the electronic health record.

  • Attends weekly Morbidity & Mortality conferences to ensure reliable data collection of postoperative occurrences.

  • Demonstrates applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the Program through Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) testing. Coordinates IRR data audits and site visits.

  • Identify streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.

  • Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Program following strict definitions.

  • Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis. Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the Program's database and meets the caseload accrual requirement protocol.

Work Effectively with Patient, Families and Staff:

  • Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and Information Systems departments.

  • Contacts patients and/or families via telephone and/or written communications postoperatively for the purpose of identifying possible occurrences associated with surgical procedures performed at the hospital.

  • Serves as an educational resource on the ACS NSQIP for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.

  • Utilizes clinical judgment in generating reports based on the data collected and communicate findings to the ACS NSQIP surgeon champion and other appropriate individuals.

  • Reviews weekly site accrual report on the database and responds to accrual report alerts

ACS NSQIP Participation:

  • Successfully completes the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program and passes yearly certification examinations.

  • Participates in Program teleconferences.

  • Attends ACS NSQIP National Conference as requested.

  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Health Information Management, Data Science, Nursing) or equivalent work experience in lieu of education.

  • Experience in clinical data collection, documentation, and entry.

  • Familiarity with ACS NSQIP and its data submission requirements.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff.

  • Proficiency in data management software and tools.

  • Successfully completes the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program and passes yearly certification examinations.
