Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an experienced Network Engineer at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) near Greenbelt, Maryland to support IT and Systems Administration requirements of the Laser Communication Relay Development (LCRD) project. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing the hardware and software of the LCRD systems within the specified configuration management system under the program guidelines set by the Project Manager and customer.

Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA SENSE contract managed at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). This contract supports operations at the White Sands Complex (WSC) near Las Cruces, New Mexico. WSC operated satellite ground terminals that ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground stations, NASA's orbiting fleet of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites), and the computer systems that support such spacecraft. WSC also supports a satellite ground terminal for the STPSat-6 satellite and has a Mission Operations Center (MOC) for its LCRD payload. The MOC conducts laser communications experiments and the GSFC support staff provides sustainment support for the MOC ground systems supporting the payload operations via the LCRD MOC - Extension (LMOC-E) at GSFC.

This position will be responsible for the following:

    Manage user accounts and privileges and provide appropriate computer system administration for the LMOC-E equipment, as well as maintain the previously configured Virtual Machines (VMs) on the LMOC-E server racks, in accordance with the LMOC-E Security Plan (security plan managed under a separate task).
  • Provide support for information assurance activities such as Computer Security (COMSEC) infrastructure, IT security, and security products.
  • Sustain the previously installed Quintron/Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) voice equipment and associated VoIP conversion solution server.
  • Maintain the existing GSFC LCRD software license and warranty data in an IT Asset Tracking Spreadsheet to ensure LMOC-E hardware and software licenses are funded and extended prior to expiration.
  • Recommend and implement any appropriate network updates required to execute planned experiments, which include standard updates such as network configuration and firewall changes.
  • Network modifications shall be documented in the appropriate Architecture Diagrams and inputs provided to the relevant Security Plans.
  • Develop Experiment-required Interconnection Security Agreements (ISAs) to document security requirements for the interconnection of LCRD IT security boundaries to external experiment user environments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Education/Experience: degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, or other related technical field and related experience is required as follows: 8+ years' experience with BS/BA, 6+ years' experience with MS/MA.
  • 6+ years of experience in the analysis, design and development of software systems including hands-on work in the test and integration of Ground Data Systems.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance, which requires US citizenship.

  • Experience with LCRD.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
