Principal Infrastructure Architect

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking a visionary Principal Infrastructure Architect to lead the strategic design and evolution of our hybrid infrastructure, encompassing on-premise environments and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.). This role demands a deep understanding of complex systems, a proven track record of architectural leadership, and the ability to drive innovation and efficiency through automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of cloud technologies and automation tools.

This position may be eligible for the possibility of remote work.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Infrastructure Planning and Design:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive infrastructure architecture roadmap aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and resilient hybrid infrastructure solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to optimize infrastructure performance and efficiency.
  • Define architectural standards and best practices for infrastructure teams.
  • Architect both premise and cloud-based solutions to support critical business applications and services.
  • Provide architectural leadership for on-premise and cloud hosting environments ensuring alignment with best practices and security standards.
  • Design and implement solutions to optimize on-premise infrastructure performance and reliability.

Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC):

  • Drive the adoption of IaC principles and automation strategies across theinfrastructure.
  • Work with our Automation Center of Excellence team to define and enforce standards for Terraform and Ansible deployments.
  • Lead the development of automation frameworks to streamline infrastructure provisioning and management.

Security and Compliance Architecture:

  • Define and implement security architectures to protect sensitive data and systems across hybrid environments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Work with Information Security team to perform security architecture reviews.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to infrastructure engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive architectural alignment and innovation.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for all infrastructure related projects.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field of study required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Core Expertise:

  • Minimum requirement: 8+ progressive years of experience in IT industry having experience leading IT infrastructure transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge and experience in either on-premise Windows Server architecture or on-premise Linux server architecture.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of automation principles and extensive experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Proven experience in architecting and implementing IaC solutions using Terraform and/or Ansible.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing infrastructure architecture roadmaps.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design complex systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure best practices and emerging technologies.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $125,840 - $238,160 per year for the role of Principal Infrastructure Architect.
