Department Information

Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) serves the Institute and its more than 14,000 employees through strategic counsel, employee engagement, and essential human capital management operations. As the people's unit, GTHR is engaged throughout the employee's lifetime at Georgia Tech. Our team works with sensitive employee information and assists in the management of complex employee issues. Professionalism and confidence are of the utmost importance within our team.

What we do:
  • Process payroll and maintain employment data for approximately 14,000 active faculty, staff, and students
  • Strive to attract, recruit, and retain the best talent in the marketplace.
  • Provide immigration, labor, and tax support required for foreign national faculty and staff to work at Georgia Tech and support employees performing services overseas.
  • Leverage a market-driven compensation structure to attract and retain employees.
  • Advise employees and managers regarding work performance and conflict management.

The Georgia Tech Human Resources Employee Relations unit is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a positive work environment for everyone. The Employee Relations unit strives to promote proper management practices, appropriate workplace behaviors, positive work relationships, and compliance with human resources policies and procedures. In addition, the Employee Relations unit helps resolve work-related complaints and manage conflict.

Job Summary

Support implementation of employee relations and performance management policies, programs, and initiatives. Serve as a delegate to Sr. Director -Employee Performance in driving effective performance management, performance coaching, and conflict management employment policy best practices. Assist with leading a team in driving consistent policy interpretation and application of workplace policies. Provide other support necessary for championing and driving a culture of accountability and fairness. Ensure execution of proactive employment best practices.

  • This position will interact regularly with departmental leadership, managers, staff, and faculty.
  • This position typically will advise and counsel Institute leadership, departmental managers, HR, Legal Affairs, Risk Management, Faculty Affairs, and the GT Police Department.
  • This position will supervise Assigned Staff.
Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Support execution of organizational strategy to ensure proactive and effective performance consulting. Analyze data to understand trends.

Job Duty 2 -

Assist with leading a team of Employee Relations consultants proactively supporting leaders and supervisors on employee performance-related matters, providing tools and resources to avoid future conflict and need for intervention.

Job Duty 3 -

Assist with creating an internal tracking mechanism to compile data and provide insights to department leadership to assist with identifying performance, conduct, or compliance-related training needs and administer regular developmental workshops.

Job Duty 4 -

Assist with aligning all campus-wide Performance Management initiatives and processes, including but not limited to GTRI, Enterprise Innovation Institute (EI2), and the Faculty Performance Management review process.

Job Duty 5 -

Assist with providing advice and consultation to managers on organizational policy and process matters with a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, ethics, initiative, and judgment.

Job Duty 6 -

Assist with updating policies, procedures, and guidance documents to promote consistent and fair employee performance practices across the Institute. Develop and provide training sessions on employment-related matters, including performance management, progressive discipline, HR policies, and mandated work rules.

Job Duty 7 -

Assist in coaching and developing managers in the performance management process and reinforce the importance of employee development, rewarding high performance, and addressing low performance.

Job Duty 8 -

Advise council managers and employees, facilitate discussion, and serve as a mediator to assist parties in diffusing conflict.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Required Experience

Five or more years of relevant professional-level experience in human resources, employee relations, labor relations, or similar field.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Psychology, Higher Education Administration or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Master's Degree in a related field.

Preferred Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of job-relevant professional experience.
  • Experience within higher education, the public sector, government, or a related industry is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in performance and change management.
  • Strong background in training, coaching, and employee development.
  • Prior experience in Employee Relations, handling employee concerns, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive work environment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Certification, License, or Permits:

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP); Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR); Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS); Certified Professional in Employee Relations Law (CPERL); Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP); and/or Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR).

Proposed Salary

Pay Range: $96,210-$114,122/yr.

Ability to serve as a subject matter expert, with experience handling complex cases and matters; experience leading a team to meet institutional priorities pertaining to conducting due diligence into employee relations issues, advising on best practices in managing employment issues, employee performance issues, and delivering excellent customer service; demonstrated strong work ethic, initiative and self-motivation, dedication to the completion of work projects, ability to collaborate and work in a team, and a passion for driving a culture of belonging, and employee engagement; ability to lead and inspire a team through actions consistent with Institute core values, including open communication, leading practices, and courageous decision-making and counsel. Must possess sound judgment to address and resolve conflict while preserving the dignity and esteem of others involved; ability to operate with discretion; ability to deliver services with a realistic/pragmatic approach based on sound judgment - balancing the needs of the Institute with the values, policies, and laws under which the Institute operates; ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
