The Electromagnetic Interference Test Section (EMITS) provides test-based solutions to high-impact challenges in the domain of launch vehicle and spacecraft electromagnetic and radiofrequency protection.

Work Model:This position will be located 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide scientific and engineering support in the areas of electromagnetic environmental effects, electromagnetic interference (EMI), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) to the United States Space Force, National Reconnaissance Office, and civil space programs.

  • Design, build, and perform laboratory and field experiments to ensure spacecraft and launch vehicles are protected from harmful electromagnetic environments.

  • Gain hands-on experience performing electromagnetic and radiofrequency testing using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and antennas; develop test methods and analyze results.

  • Occasionally travel to launch ranges, launch vehicle and satellite factories, and other sites to perform critical testing, troubleshooting, and mission assurance activities.

  • Evaluate and improve spacecraft, launch vehicle, and infrastructure electromagnetic design and performance.

  • Participate in a team of industry experts that focus on conceptual designs, requirement development, proposal evaluation, design evaluation and verification, launch operations, and anomaly root-cause and corrective action.

  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed.

What You Need to be Successful - Member of Technical Staff

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS degreein Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline from anaccredited university

  • Two or more years of related technical experience

  • Knowledge of applied electromagnetics, microwave engineering, radiofrequency engineering, antenna theory, and/or calculus-based electromagnetism

  • Project / academic experience with programming, data analysis, or computer control of test equipment

  • This position requires the ability to obtainand maintaina security clearance,which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Senior Member of Technical Staff:

  • Five or more years of related technical experience

  • Demonstrated leadership of EMI/EMC or radiofrequency measurement and test activities

  • Experience creating test procedures, test plans, and test reports

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree

  • Experience performing scientific or engineering research, development, or troubleshooting in the areas of applied electromagnetics, microwave engineering, or radiofrequency engineering

  • Track record performing EMI/EMC tests according to commercial or military standards, such as MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160, or TEMPEST

  • Skilled in carrying out measurements related to the areas of electronic warfare (EW), directed energy (DE), radiofrequency interference (RFI), signals intelligence (SIGINT), radar cross section (RCS), or radio astronomy

  • Programming proficiency in MatLab, Python, LabVIEW, TILE!, or EMC32

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
