Job Summary:

As a Field Evaluation Representative, you will provide Field Evaluation (Special Inspection and US Field Evaluation) services to clients in various locations globally. You will provide Field Evaluation services for clients from the application review stage to the point at which the product is labelled and beyond.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform the code compliance analysis according to various product standards for fuel-fired equipment such as NFPA 86 (Standard for Ovens and Furnaces) and NFPA 87 (Standard for Fluid Heaters) for the construction, installation, and safe operation.

  • Evaluate the fuel system (assembly, type of components) and the electrical schematic (sequence of operation, components, control circuit wiring) according to the applicable requirements.

  • Analyze the characteristics of the appliance operation in regards with burner operation and airflow

  • Request modifications or additions to the appliance in order to meet code requirements via inspection report

  • Communicate with customers in order to provide efficient follow-ups and to ensure customers understand the findings noted during the analysis

  • Perform on-site inspections to verify that the installation complies with relevant CSA / NFPA standards for fuel-fired equipment (or any other applicable requirements)

  • Verify the piping, the gas train and its components, the control panel and its components

  • Verify that the installation complies with the schematics, and the analysis report generated during the analysis

  • Perform tests and verifications on the appliance under evaluation during the on-site inspection

  • Write a non-conformance report indicating all items that need to be rectified, if applicable, and send it to the customer

  • Affix US Field Evaluation Label when the appliance complies with the requirements of the code.

  • Review requests for quotes from potential clients and recommend options for conformity of the equipment to the applicable standards

  • Provide technical support to the CU (commercial unit) and CCS (customer care specialist) team to determine the project's scope, service deliverables, price estimates, and assist in quote preparation

  • Where required by management, attend technical or industry trade show and association meetings and engage in networking with industry stakeholders and regulators and promote CSA Field Evaluation service.

Qualifications:
Education:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Technology or equivalent i.e. gas fitter, HVAC technician, Power Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Experience:

  • Five (5) to ten (10) years experience as a gas field technician, engineer and inspector

  • Experience in combustion equipment used in commercial / industrial facilities

  • Hands-on experience in process instrumentation and process control including Burner Management Systems (BMS) and PLC.

  • Experience in manufacturing and operations of boilers, ovens, heaters, evaporators, furnaces and other fuel burning equipment.

Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics such as P&ID, Bill of Material, wiring diagrams, logic diagram, valve and burner management system documents, IOM related to the equipment evaluation.

  • Knowledge of the fuel fired equipment standards (NFPA 85, 86, 87, 54) CSA B149.1 / B149.3

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent decision-making and organizational skills, self-starter, problem-solving ability

  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Microsoft Outlook)

Travel:

  • Individual must be willing to travel and perform inspections in industrial environment

  • Must possess valid passport and drivers license

The typical hiring range for this position in California is $68, 000 - $90,000; however, based on a variety of considerations (such as education, licenses, certifications and/or, experience,) CSA Group reserves the right to flexibility outside of the stated range.
