The Coordinator, Laboratory Operations serves as a consultant in quality management, training, testing proficiencies and quality reviews. This role ensures educational activities are aligned with departmental goals, to include objectives that are appropriate, current, timely. Ensuring laboratory processes are efficient, standardized, and in compliance with industry regulations. Additionally, the Coordinator promotes a culture of safety for patients through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and for the prevention of medical errors.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Leads quality and regulatory/compliance activities to include method and instrument evaluations, quality control processes, materials, documentation and data analysis in accordance with lab policies and accreditation agencies.
- Reviews quality control for problem identification to include troubleshooting issues and implement solutions to increase performance efficiency.
- Performs moderately and/or high complex testing in the clinical laboratories.
- Coordinates with system laboratory sites to ensure consistency in Blood Bank operations.
- Develops and establishes procedures for collecting, processing and analyzing biological specimens and other substances.
- Ensures up-to-date procedure manuals and laboratory policies are regularly reviewed and updated.
- Monitors updates to the Laboratory Information System and communicates changes to laboratory staff to ensure the accurate display of results and/or information.
- Serves as the primary technical resource, ensuring proper instrument calibration and performance.
- Oversees validation/verification studies for new instruments, methods and tests.
- Participates in inspection readiness activities, including tracer activities for regulatory and accreditation agencies.
- Partners in the teaching/training of staff and students (e.g. Clinical Laboratory Science students, residents, new associates, etc.).
- Oversees the inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, applying asset management principles to ensure adequate stock and resource optimization
- Assists with purchasing, writing specifications, contacting suppliers, researching and evaluating products.
- Serves as a consultant to health care clinicians, providing advice on laboratory testing and results.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, Medical Technology, required. With appropriate certification or eligibility to certify.
- ASCP, or equivalent, MLS/MT, required.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in Medical Technology, required.
- Familiarity with IT software platforms (Microsoft Office, LIS software, etc.), preferred.
- Experience in quality control, regulatory compliance, and testing procedures, preferred.
- One (1) to two (2) years in Lead/Supervisory role, preferred.
- Specialization certification (SBB, ASCP-C, ASCP-M, etc.), preferred.
