Duties and Responsibilities
Position Overview:
The Senior Project Manager will play a crucial role in managing a variety of IT technology implementations and other Projects within our organization. This Position will have a significant impact on Department-level IT operations and will involve direct influence through cross-functional collaboration. The successful Candidate will be responsible for managing mid-sized budgets and contributing to operational tactical planning and the implementation of Departmental goals.
General Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight: Provide direct oversight to specific IT Units or Projects, ensuring efficient and effective operation.
  • Departmental Impact: Influence Department-level IT operations through strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and direct leadership.
  • Budget Management: Manage mid-sized budgets for assigned Units or Projects, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational Goals.
  • Tactical Planning: Participate in operational tactical planning, contributing to the achievement of Departmental Objectives and Goals.
  • Knowledge and Understanding: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of specific IT domains, with some cross-functional understanding to support broader organizational needs.
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with Team leaders, Peers, and Directors to foster collaboration, alignment, and information sharing.


Position Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensure assigned Programs and Projects are properly defined, work efforts are estimated and required resources are identified to ensure success throughout the Project Management lifecycle.
  • Utilize estimating and scheduling techniques to determine total work effort and task sequencing.
  • Facilitate negotiations with end-users and various Stakeholders to ensure Project expectations can be met. Must be able to influence and persuade individuals and/or groups to identify common solutions.
  • Develop and manage Project plans to ensure Project are completed as planned and scheduled. Responsible for ensuring that Project Objectives are met on time and under budget.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate issues and risks that may jeopardize the completion of Programs or Projects.
  • Maintain Project status documentation and monitor progress towards completion.
  • Regularly communicate with Executive Sponsors, End Users, and Stakeholders about Project expectations and status.
  • Serve as a resource for other members of the ITS PMO to provide technical leadership and guidance.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering and 5+ years of experience in Information Technology, Program/Project Management, or related experience.


  • 4+ years of experience in managing mid-large scale Enterprise Projects, including a proven track record of success with managing multiple simultaneous Programs and/or Projects with a duration of 6+ months and Teams of 6 - 20 people.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering and 5+ years of experience in Information Technology, Program/Project Management, or related experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing mid-large scale Programs/Projects in Information Technology.
  • Proven track record of success with managing multiple simultaneous programs and/or projects with a duration of 6+ months and teams of 6-20 people.
  • Industry Certifications (PMP, PMI-ACP, CAPM, CSM, etc.), or willingness to obtain them, are strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to translate technical detail into easily understandable verbiage for stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of SDLC processes and best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various Departments and Teams.
  • Excellent organizational and Project Management skills.
  • Experience in Higher Education is a plus, but not required.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Industry Certifications ( PMP, PMI- ACP, CAPM, CSM, etc.), or willingness to obtain them, are strongly preferred.
Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications (Project, Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with the Project Management Institute's Project Management lifecycle and PMBOK.
