Loyola University Chicago seeks applications for the position of
Research & Learning Librarian and Subject Specialist for Arrupe College, based at Lewis Library
. The librarian will work with both students enrolled at Arrupe College as well as those enrolled within the wider University.
Arrupe College is a two-year associate's degree program at Loyola University Chicago. The librarian will provide research support, curriculum support, online and in-person instruction, workshops and research consultations. The successful candidate should show evidence of creativity, initiative, flexibility, and ability to work with diverse populations. This is an open-rank library faculty appointment. At Loyola, Librarian is a special faculty designation with opportunities for promotion.
The Loyola University Chicago Libraries includes Cudahy Library, the Information Commons, and the Library Storage Facility at the Lakeshore Campus in Rogers Park; Lewis Library at the Water Tower Campus in downtown Chicago; the Health Sciences Library on the medical campus in Maywood; and a library at the John Felice Rome Center in Italy. The University Libraries also collaborates closely with the School of Law Library.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Interim Head of Research & Learning Services (R&LS), the Research and Learning Librarian will:
- Provide research and instructional support to students and faculty throughout the research lifecycle
- Identify, recommend and promote scholarly resources to support the curricular and research needs of stakeholders in Arrupe College.
- Support general research and learning needs of the university, including information literacy instruction and participate in library and university wide programming and service.
- Provide research, learning, and engagement support to Arrupe College, including course-integrated instruction, skill-building workshops, research consultations, and collection development.
- Stay current with developments in research and education, library science, and information technology. Participate in relevant professional organizations and attend conferences as appropriate.
- Provide support for evidence synthesis within business and provide guidance for research data management, research metrics, and scholarly communication.
- Contribute to Research and Learning Services Department projects and initiatives, including creating research guides and instructional materials, advising on the development of library discovery tools, and providing reference services in person and through various online means.
- Select materials including books, serials, databases, and data sets to support the research and curricular needs of Arrupe College. Deselect materials and maintain a useful and up-to-date collection.
- Participate in library and university committee work.
- Other duties to support research and learning as assigned
- Actively contribute to the broader profession through scholarship and service.

Qualifications |
Required qualifications
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program, or a graduate degree or professional certification in a related field, combined with relevant library experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience in academic libraries, preferably in research and instruction.
- Bilingual Skills - Spanish/English speaking required.
- Demonstrated experience with team building, forging relationships, and establishing collaborations with campus partners and other external stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications
- Second advanced degree in an academic discipline.
- Experience working within a liaison librarian service model
- Evidence of professional service and/or research, with the potential to succeed in an academic promotion process.
- Experience supporting or promoting transformative educational programs, a commitment to social justice, and service to underserved communities.
- Experience with library discovery tools and systems, especially Ex Libris's Alma and Primo and Springshare products.
