About the Job

The Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota invites applications for an Assistant Professor position from candidates with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, with a record of outstanding training in neurophysiology and neuromodulation technologies and evidence of exceptional potential for independent research. The Neuromodulation Research Center, directed by Professor Jerrold Vitek, M.D. Ph.D., is an NIH-funded research program studying the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease, dystonia and other neurological disorders, novel applications of deep brain stimulation technology to the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disease, the mechanisms of deep brain stimulation and finally motor and reward systems neurophysiology. The successful applicant will be expected to establish an innovative and collaborative research program within the Neuromodulation Research Center.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting behavior and neurophysiology experiments in both human studies as well as non-human primate animal models, and should have expertise in signal processing of neural signals. The ideal candidate should have experience with movement disorders, in particular Parkinson's disease, as well as experience with utilizing deep brain stimulation technologies for the treatment of movement disorders. The candidate should have a record of presenting research results through publications and presentations.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Lab Research/Administrative (100%)
1. Conduct neurophysiology research
2. Originate research ideas
3. Obtain research funding through grant proposals (e.g. NIH funding)
4. Collect and analyze data
5. Write manuscripts for publications
6. Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate students, junior scientists and postdocs working on related research projects

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* PhD in engineering, neuroscience or related science field
* Demonstrated record of outstanding training in neurophysiology and/or neuromodulation technologies
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
* Demonstrated evidence of exceptional potential for independent research

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with neurophysiological recordings in both humans and non-human primates
* Expertise in recording and analysis of single unit and local field potential neural signals
* Experience with deep brain stimulation technologies
* Experience with movement disorders research, specifically Parkinson's disease
* Experience with grant writing

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $90,000-$103,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
