SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER - VIM - (Athens, AL) JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY - The Senior Project Manager will oversee the successful execution of capital projects from initiation through completion in a heavy manufacturing environment. This position requires expertise in the FEL (Front-End Loading) process to ensure optimal project planning, risk management, and alignment with strategic business goals. The role demands the management of large-scale, complex projects, maintaining timelines, budgets, and safety standards, while driving project efficiency and stakeholder collaboration. This position is located in Athens, AL. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER - VIM:
- Project Leadership: Lead and manage capital projects from the planning phase through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning within a heavy manufacturing setting. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- FEL Process Expertise: Guide and implement the FEL process for all stages of capital project execution. Ensure that project scope, cost estimates, schedules, and risk management plans are robust and realistic at each FEL phase (FEL-1, FEL-2, FEL-3).
- Stakeholder Management: Coordinate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, operations, and external vendors. Serve as the primary point of contact for project-related communication with executives and stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Identify project risks early and develop mitigation plans to address potential issues throughout the project's lifecycle.
- Budget and Schedule Control: Monitor and control project budgets, timelines, and performance metrics to ensure optimal resource allocation and prevent scope creep. Report regularly on project progress to senior leadership.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all projects comply with industry regulations, standards, and company safety protocols. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all work is executed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Vendor and Contract Management: Manage contracts and relationships with external contractors, suppliers, and engineering firms. Oversee procurement activities and ensure all external services are provided according to specifications and timelines.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide strategic insights for process improvements and lessons learned in project management, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce costs for future projects.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED FOR THE SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER - VIM:
- Four-year college degree in Management, Engineering required.
- Minimum five years of related experience.
- PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge and experience with the FEL process (FEL-1, FEL-2, FEL-3) and project life cycle.
- Experience managing large-scale projects with budgets of $5 million+.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and capital project execution.
- Exceptional project management skills, with expertise in scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Knowledge of project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Advanced knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices for capital projects.
- Familiarity with heavy manufacturing operations and environments, including mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering disciplines.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to manage both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, with occasional exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
- Must be able to visit construction sites and manufacturing plants as needed.
- Travel to project sites as required.
