Position Purpose

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients as a member of the Department of Pediatrics.

The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

Core Responsibilities

  1. Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  2. Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  3. Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  4. Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  5. Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  6. Completes appropriate credentialing and/or privileging as defined by the hiring institutions and clinical practice site.
  7. Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  8. Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  9. Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  10. Participates in the education of multidisciplinary learners, including but not limited to medical students, residents and fellows.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  1. Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Pediatrics intervention in blended environment as a member of the Adolescent Medicine Service.
  2. Writes accurate and timely consults, initial hospital day, progress notes, procedure notes, and/or documentation of family interactions.
  3. Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  4. Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Adolescent Medicine services.
  5. Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  6. Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  7. Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  8. Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  9. Competent in handling adolescent and young adult patients and their issues including but not restricted to sexuality and sexual health, mental health issues such as eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and menstrual disorders.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care delivery based on business needs. Inpatient consult service will require evening and/or weekend hours and assigned based on clinical staffing volumes.

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience: Three years of experience as an Advance Practice Provider.

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Minimum Requiremets/Experience: Zero years of experience required.

Advanced Practice Nurse Certification

Certifications / Licenses

(Must be current and maintained)

  • Wisconsin RN license
  • Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
  • Certification as Family Practice NP or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Additional certification as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care NP is desirable
  • AHA BCLS
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire

Physician Assistant

  • Wisconsin PA license
  • Certification by NCCPA
  • AHA BCLS
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
