Overview

HJF is seeking a Scientist I develop and conduct research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University's Surgical Critical Care Initiative and the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics (PMB). The Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i), funded by the Department of Defense was established in 2013. SC2i is a Uniformed Services University center that leverages legacy information from service members, and critically ill civilian and military patients to develop biomarker-driven clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) with the goal of improving patient clinical outcomes and reducing costs across the injury/disease cycle.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike.Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Processes and interprets experimental data, formulates hypotheses, and designs research protocols.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications.
  • Plans, executes, and provides administrative oversight related to scientific projects and conferences.
  • Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • Supports and participates in planning, creation and submission of proposals and agreements as requested.
  • Collaborates with the scientific director, scientific, and program management staff to support research initiatives and program objectives.
  • Manages key program elements, including but not limited to goals and milestones, risks, available resources, budgets, research grants, standard operating procedures, quality control, and results. Identifies project interdependencies, aligning resources and efforts where appropriate.
  • Develops, designs, and reviews professional reports, presentations, and research highlights to effectively communicate scientific, technical, and programmatic information to diverse stakeholders.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • social sciences and background in bioinformatics and biostatistics preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 public trust investigation.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$100,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
