Description

This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of Emergency Medicine to medical students, residents and allied health professionals and will serve as the Assistant Clerkship Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine.


Examples of Duties

I. Teaching 20%
A. Carry out delegated responsibilities concerning the instruction of medical students and residents in the disciplines of emergency medicine as well as general medical care. This includes: participation in and direction of conferences and seminars; bedside teaching of emergency medicine; instruction in the simulation and procedural skills laboratory; and bedside procedure instruction.
B. Act as a role model for the house staff and provide instruction during conferences and in the emergency department.
C. Provide support for the Emergency Medicine Clerkship, other student activities and emergency medicine rotations.
D. Develop and implement student electives and continuing medical education in the area of emergency medicine.

II. Administrative 10%

A. Serve as the Assistant Clerkship Director. This includes the following:

a. Support all aspects of the Emergency Medicine Clerkship
b. Active development of didactic, simulation, and other curricula
c. Evaluate and provide feedback to medical students at regular intervals
d. Assist the Clerkship Director in preparing communications and reports to the SIU Year 3, Year 4 and Educational Policy Committees.
B. Participate in selection and interviewing of resident applicants.

III. Research 5%
A. Initiate clinical and educational research efforts.
B. Work to obtain funding for support of research and education.

IV. Service 65%
A. Provide a role model as practitioner for students and residents by maintaining a practice of high quality in emergency medicine.
B. Provide consultative and/or diagnostic service to house staff and other physicians.
C. Participate in assigned departmental, medical school and hospital committees.
D. Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and behavioral standards of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Provide excellent service to both internal and external parties through collaboration and partnership; compassion and respect; integrity and accountability; diversity, equity and inclusion; as well as a continuous learning and improvement.


Qualifications

a.M.D. / D.O. degree and license to practice in the State of Illinois.
b.ABEM board eligible / board certified in Emergency Medicine.
c.Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.


Supplemental Information

The budgeted annual salary range is $242,000 to $400,000. The final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Additional incentive compensation may also be available for clinical work performed beyond the standard scope of responsibilities.
