Position Description

The Associate Category Manager is responsible for the strategic sourcing and optimization of the supply chain of highly engineered components (low volume, high mix) with an annual spend of ~$14M leading fabrications globally and supporting castings. This category manager is responsible for strengthening key relationships with our supplier partners for the spend they manage. The candidate must have the ability to structure and present a compelling business proposition during negotiations to key suppliers. The category manager will keep apprised of the supply chain environment and modify key strategies appropriately to improve cost, delivery, service and quality through strategic sourcing programs such as risk mitigation programs, and supplier performance management.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Owns, forms & supports positive relationships with key suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Drives bottom line results through improving service, risk, and quality across managed spend categories (assisting castings, managing fabrications).

  • Collects and refines data with the global team to drive thoughtful request for proposals and requests for quotations. Leads negotiation efforts for fabrications globally and delivers compelling counteroffers to key supply relationships.

  • Identifies, develops, and leads the efforts to qualify high performing suppliers across the portfolio.

  • Works collaboratively with Sr. Category managers to develop long-term category strategies for global spend, leading fabrications and assisting with castings.

  • Willingness to learn and lead long-term optimization programs, including plans that improve cost, risk mitigation, service and quality.

  • Supports supplier performance management and risk mitigation programs and related metrics across Sundyne's spend portfolio.

  • Participates in constructing & modifying contract language to reduce risk exposure of the business.

  • Leads, presents key improvements, developments across strategic sourcing portfolio in business reviews to leadership.

  • Understands ongoing trends across the globe and adjusts strategy through integrating needed agility into supply chain plans.

  • Forecasts inflation for responsible spend categories appropriately based on market intelligence.

  • Recommends improvements to refine end-to-end supply chain processes.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong negotiations skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

  • Strong relational skills, ability to structure a compelling business proposition

  • Agile, adaptable to the rapidly changing supply chain environment

  • Ability to multi-task and handle the pressure of the supply chain environment

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

  • Lean or Six Sigma experience preferred

  • ISM/CPSM certification preferred

  • Project Management experience preferred

  • In depth understanding of strategic sourcing programs & practices

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years strategic sourcing experience

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Experience with ERP systems

  • Fluent in English

  • Approximately 20-25% travel (domestic); 5% (international)

Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift up to thirty-five pounds

Compensation Details

Annual Salary: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00

Additional Compensation

Salary Range for this position: $80K-95K (the salary offered will be determined based on the applicant's education, experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, and will be compared with internal equity along with market data for this position).
