Department Information
The College of Sciences (CoS) cultivates curiosity, encourages exploration, and fosters innovation to develop scientific solutions for a better world. Our connected community of scientists and mathematicians collaborates across disciplines and challenges to achieve excellence in science, teaching, and research. Working across six internationally ranked schools with the brightest young minds in our fields, we mentor future leaders to identify and push the frontiers of human knowledge, imagination, and innovation.

This position, reporting to the Director of Facilities and Capitol Planning, will manage the design and renovation process of a variety of spaces, including wet laboratories, throughout the 6 different schools under the College of Sciences. Therefore, a strong understanding of research labs, educational spaces, and administrative environments is advantageous for success in this position. The College of Sciences has assigned space within fourteen (14) different facilities. This position interacts directly with Research Faculty/Principal Investigators (PIs), school and college leadership, facility/building managers, contractors, and vendors. Revit and/or AutoCAD skills beneficial for conceptual design needs.

Job Summary

Provide decision support on campus space-related matters. Develop schematic and alternative layouts for programming and planning of design and construction projects of educational facilities for the campus environment. Oversee and manage programmatic components of these projects transitioned to lead roles by Facilities Design and Construction personnel. Provide collaboration and support of projects including budgetary aspects, programming continuity and status updates for design development, bidding and construction of facility projects. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Faculty, staff, and external partners. This position typically will advise and counsel: Faculty, staff, and external partners. Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Develop conceptual programs and budget sheets for campus capital and non-capital projects.

Job Duty 2 -
Conduct periodic space audits; direct departmental move planning and track move budgets; provide space recommendations; space allocation documentation; advise academic and administrative leaders on potential space-related initiatives; assist private consultants and Facilities project managers on capital and non-capital construction and renovation projects.

Job Duty 3 -
Write Request for Qualifications (RFQ) advertisements; prepare Board of Regents due-diligence reports.

Job Duty 4 -
Develop pre-programming documents and information for decision-making suggestions and alternatives including space inventory and space auditing.

Job Duty 5 -
Develop conceptual programmatic requirements for proposed design and construction initiatives.

Job Duty 6 -
Develop conceptual cost estimates and project budgets.

Job Duty 7 -
Participate in on-going construction related update and status meetings.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Business, Engineering or Planning, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Five to seven years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Architecture, Engineering Planning, AICP, LEED

Preferred Experience
Ten or more years of job-related experience. Preferably experience working with Geospatial Information Systems, AutoCAD

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires advanced knowledge in university planning, design and construction practices, planning, and management; effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to consistently complete multiple projects and work-related duties; ability to interact with academic and administrative personnel; strong team work approach in a cross-functional, diverse team/network; proficiency in computer applications common in office, construction, and design.
