Overview

ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Senior Director of Business Development to ensure a stable and sustainable business for ATCC Federal Solutions. Onsite presence is required in Manassas, VA, with approximately 10% travel.

This pivotal senior leadership role involves leading a team to drive government business growth, cultivating key stakeholder relationships, and developing innovative sales strategies within the government contracting landscape. The position also ensures the stability and sustainability of ATCC Federal Solutions by building strategic partnerships, managing communications, overseeing external consultants, and leading the proposal management function.

Candidates should have a proven track record in growing business and managing teams, strong communication and presentation skills, and experience collaborating with government agencies in the health science space. A scientific background in areas such as chronic disease, global logistics, supply chain, military health, or biosecurity is preferred.

Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership: Direct, evaluate, and manage new strategic business opportunities, initiatives, partnerships, alliances, and ventures within the government contracting sector. Make recommendations for new projects to support strategic business decisions. Provide leadership in planning, designing, due diligence, and implementation of strategic business objectives tailored to government contracts.
  • Business Growth and Development: Identify, develop, and implement near-term and long-term business strategies to grow revenue within the government contracting landscape. Evaluate organic and inorganic growth opportunities to expand capabilities for government contracts and partnerships. Develop licensing objectives, policies, and programs specific to government contracting.
  • Relationship Management: Ensure the establishment of positive, productive relationships with government agencies and partners to maximize sales revenues and attain organizational objectives. Negotiate consulting relationships with leading researchers and experts in the government sector. Manage the activities of the Business Development staff, including selecting, developing, and evaluating personnel focused on government contracts.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 15 or more years of experience, including 8 or more years in a supervisory role or equivalent experience.
  • Proven track record in strategic business development within the government contracting sector, with experience in identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills, with experience in establishing and maintaining productive partnerships with government agencies and partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of market analysis and competitive intelligence specific to the government contracting landscape to drive business growth.
  • Experience in developing and implementing business strategies that result in revenue growth within the government sector.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in the life sciences or biotechnology industry is preferred.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, PhD) is a plus.


Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $200,000 to $225,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
