Infection Prevention Specialist

The Infection Prevention Specialist supports the planning and development of infection prevention activities across the organization to control the transmission of infectious agents. Working under general supervision, this role assists with infection prevention and control components including conducting surveillance, assisting with investigations of outbreaks, education of healthcare providers, and consultation with healthcare providers and other professionals.


Supports the implementation of infection prevention and control strategies related to controlling the transmission of infectious agents.
Participates in investigations of clusters of infections, outbreaks, unusual infections or exposures as these events arise and participates in epidemiologic studies as needed
Supports the development of processes to ensure the timely collection, analysis, and reporting of infection surveillance data and assists in making recommendations to improve processes
Utilizes appropriate Quality Assurance monitoring activities to address issues of potential risk of infection for patients or employees.
Reports "reportable diseases" to the appropriate public health departments and responds to public health department inquiries as needed.
Performs apparent cause analysis to identify modifiable risk factors and other infection prevention opportunities.
Maintains a knowledge base of current Infection Prevention and Control information through networking, internet, literature and professional meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years of experience
