Summary:

The Supervisor Security receives general direction from the director and manager to assist with the day-to-day site/shift operations. Under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures is responsible for supervising operational personnel assures appropriate security response proper follow-up occurs on all incidents and that all documentation is accurate and complete. Participates in the formulation and implementation of departmental strategic planning represents the department and/or shift on interdepartmental and intradepartmental committees participates in the annual preparation of the department budget and ensures that hospital patients visitors team members and students heed hospital policies and practices relating to safety and security issues.

Responsibilities:

Working with the site/shift manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the site/shift; assumes charge responsibilities in the absence of the shift manager and takes lead role in responding to emergencies or major occurrences that require departmental intervention. Ensures department philosophy and expectations for customer service is met.

Participates in interviewing and hiring process for operational staff; provides orientation to new employees; evaluates capability performance efficiency and appearance of staff on a routine basis completing formal performance evaluations annually; counsels develops and motivates support staff; utilizes hospital's corrective action process as appropriate; keeps support staff informed of all departmental/hospital activities policies and procedures; coordinates scheduling of operational staff ensuring adequate coverage at all times; oversees the payroll timekeeping and approves all time off requests schedules overtime as necessary.

Assesses and participates in the training needs of operational staff; conducts training sessions in a workshop/classroom setting; participates in the creation of departmental recognition and retention programs and other departmental committees and initiatives; works with department management team in its total quality management efforts in order to improve services enhance productivity and support to the hospital community.

Ensures that hospital security regulations are enforced and that criminal violations and security problems are investigated and appropriately reported to management and law enforcement agencies; conducts security surveys/analyses/ALERT program to determine vulnerability and risk to the Institution and communicates risk reduction recommendations to appropriate parties.

Responds to emergencies or major occurrences that require departmental managerial intervention; facilitates repairs to areas where security/safety breeches are issues. Oversees the monitoring and maintenance of department vehicles any security system and equipment. Oversees the orderly handling of court documents (warrants subpoenas etc.) between the Hospital and law enforcement agencies. Provides input into annual departmental budget preparation; complies with efforts to provide cost effective services within budget parameters.

Assumes all operational duties and responsibilities of security officer when appropriate.

Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by Director or Manager.
Routinely inspects buildings and grounds for security and safety violations and takes appropriate action to ensure a secure environment of care.

Prepares reports of Safety and Security related activities on assigned shifts.

Assumes functional responsibility for security on assigned weekends and in the absence of the Security Director.

Responsible for proper handling use and maintenance of Hospital radio equipment.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Formal training in Security techniques and procedures normally equivalent to less than two years of college.

EXPERIENCE:

One to two years progressively more responsible security related and supervisory experience.

Supervisory abilities to effectively oversee the activities of a contract Security staff and assist in the operation of the department.

Knowledge of safety and security policies procedures and regulations necessary to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with established regulations.

Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients visitors physicians and hospital staff of all levels.

Ability to maintain security police EMS certifications and licensures.

Competent to ensure compliance with local state and federal laws hospital policies and procedures.

Strong writing skills to provide and maintain documentation to support data. Basic computer skills; typing and use of database software.

Technology: use of access control and database software communications equipment first aid equipment

Successful completion of IAHSS supervisory training program and/or other commensurate supervisory training initiatives


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 20 FTE*s in-house contracted personnel.
