Join Our Culinary Team Sous Chef at McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee

About the Role:

FISD is seeking an energetic and skilled Sous Chef to join our culinary team at McCallie School located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. McCallie School offers boys in grades 6-12 an exceptional education. McCallie's academic and extracurricular programs are designed specifically to cater to the unique needs of boys, providing a well-rounded and enriching experience. As a Sous Chef, will play a key role in providing exceptional dining experiences that support the school's commitment to excellence. and assist in overseeing all culinary functions. In this role, you will be responsible for the successful operation of the Culinary Department within the facility. You will support the Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, food preparation, and the development of daily menu items, ensuring that high-quality meals are prepared and served. This is an exciting opportunity for a culinary professional with a passion for food, leadership, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Executive Chef to manage kitchen operations and supervise culinary associates. Ensure that all kitchen staff are trained and motivated to deliver exceptional service.
  • Assist the Executive Chef in planning and creating menus that meet the dietary needs of students and staff while maintaining variety, quality, and creativity.
  • Help manage cost controls and expenditures for the account, ensuring food costs are kept within budget while maintaining quality standards.
  • Produce and execute catering events, ensuring all aspects of food preparation, presentation, and service meet high standards. Catering experience with high-volume events is preferred.
  • Collaborate with the company's marketing and culinary teams to roll out new culinary programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee food preparation and cooking, ensuring all meals are prepared to the highest standards, with attention to detail in presentation and garnishment.
  • Participate in client satisfaction programs and activities to ensure the dining experience exceeds expectations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Culinary Experience: Some progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, depending on formal degree or training.
  • Catering Experience: Prior experience with catering operations is a plus. Catering experience with high-volume events is preferred.
  • High-Volume Experience: Experience working in a high-volume kitchen environment, particularly with large-scale catering events, is highly desirable.
  • Food Safety Certification: ServSafe certification is highly desirable.
  • Technology Proficiency: Must be experienced with computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, email, and the internet.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A.S. or equivalent experience in culinary arts or related field.
  • Some experience with institutional and batch cooking is helpful.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends, focusing on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
  • Willingness to participate in client satisfaction programs and activities.
