General Purpose: Responsible for all accounting activities for the Western Area milk marketing division, for transactions from farm pick-up through to the final sale. This includes balancing raw milk load sales, billing customers, reporting information to the California Dept of Agriculture, (CDFA), and Federal Milk Marketing Order 51, (FO51), and performing financial analyses to provide management with accurate and timely reports. The primary focus will be on milk payments to farmer-owners. This role requires establishing direct working relationships with farmer-owners, contract haulers, employees, customers, and vendors as necessary. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare milk purchase calculations and create payment requests for farmer-owners
- Update, correct, or override production activity to maintain optimum association and abide by State and Federal Order rules
- Setup, maintain, and update farmer-owner membership, payment, and related information
- Review, obtain, and update necessary documents related to farmer-owners and regulatory bodies
- Review and reconcile general ledger activity for farmer-owner payments and accounts payable activity
- Maintain the general ledger, including the preparation and posting of journal entries necessary for monthly closing
- Assist in preparing invoices for customers in SAP using regulatory and internal price announcements and the appropriate Federal Order Classification of pounds and pricing
- Assist in outside milk purchase calculations and create payment requests for milk vendors
- Monitor all transaction activity regarding assigned milk division to confirm accuracy of detail, including the input of external purchased volume * Balance transactional data for all farmer-owner payments
- Complete all necessary reports for specific CDFA and FO 51 related to farmer-owners
- Compile various monthly closing reports for management's review in preparation for producer payment processes
- Maintain, monitor, and update farmer-owner membership, payee, payment, and related information *
- Reconcile all balance sheet general ledger accounts assigned and perform analyses as needed to resolve outstanding related items
- Complete other analyses, duties, and projects as requested
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting or emphasis in accounting/finance (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 1+ years of accounting experience
- Knowledge of the dairy industry, state and federal order rules, or related is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), balance sheet and general ledger methods, internal controls, and other areas related to accounting or financial reporting
- Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically accounting software and Excel
- Skilled in 10-key
- Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy while maintaining a high volume of output
- Must be dependable and reliable
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Must be able to work independently and efficiently under strict deadlines
