Job Summary:



The Department of Emergency Medicine has an opening for a Senior or Principal Laboratory Research Services Professional (RSP). This individual will be involved in conducting various research studies in a fast paced, translational research laboratory setting in conjunction with multiple grants and contracts related to advanced drug and device development aimed at treating hemorrhagic shock and drug/chemical toxicity.

Responsibilities include general laboratory management, experimental scheduling and protocol oversight, database and sample inventory management, oversight of laboratory supplies and inventories, maintaining and documenting compliance with IACUC, IRB, and Environmental Health and Safety requirements, overseeing equipment maintenance and certification, corresponding with internal and external collaborators, and conducting research. In addition, the RSP will assist with data analysis and preparing figures for presentation, manuscripts, grants, and annual reports.

The position will require occasional travel for off-site experiments and collaborating research organizations, as well as presenting data at conferences and meetings. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented and have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. This position requires the ability to work full-time in person with flexible hours.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.

Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

Duties:

15% - Laboratory research activities

Key Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Utilize and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research results
  • Support analytical testing processes using standard laboratory knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test processes and evaluate results
  • Oversee daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues
  • Review and implement lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required
  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions
  • Independently Review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Assist team members, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives
  • Assist and train junior team members

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Senior professional:



  • Bachelor's degree in in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, toxicology, genetics, nursing, healthcare or related field from an accredited institution and willingness to work with animals.
  • Two (2) years laboratory research or related experience


Principal professional:



  • Bachelor's degree in in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, toxicology, genetics, nursing, healthcare or related field from an accredited institution and willingness to work with animals.
  • Three (3) years laboratory research or related experience


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in science or health related field, experience with statistical analysis software (GraphPad or other)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, expertise in toxicology, histopathology, ELISA, and imaging.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Senior Professional: $56,169-$66,088

Principal Professional: $64,594-$71,447

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
