Safety Coordinator Position Purpose

The Safety Coordinator will be responsible for providing administration and monitoring of safety training programs company-wide for Kirby-Smith Machinery. The Safety Coordinator will also serve as a safety and compliance resource for management and respond to requests for information and assistance with the Company's safety and compliance program.

Safety Coordinator Essential Functions



  • Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
  • Monitors and administers a company-wide safety program
  • Partners with Managers on all areas of safety to reduce accident and incident rates
  • Conducts training classes that utilize various mediums
  • Develops safety tools, which include providing topics for weekly safety meetings, reporting solutions for accident prevention, etc.
  • Conducts safety walkthroughs to identify unsafe conditions, and recommends safeguards and solutions
  • Administers the collection of monthly safety deliverables and other data
  • Monitors and administers employee return to work programs
  • Manages company FMCSA account
  • Plans and implements OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) policies and programs
  • Advises and leads employees on various safety-related topics
  • Reviews existing policies and procedures
  • Adheres to all the rules and regulations
  • Works with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety
  • Conducts risk assessment and enforces preventative measures
  • Prepares and presents reports on accidents and violations, and determines the causes
  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures
  • Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment
  • Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates
  • Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program, including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems
  • Shares environmental safety information with appropriate levels in the organization
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules
  • Ensures consistent and reliable on-site attendance
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Safety Coordinator Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have the ability to travel
  • Exceptional Interpersonal skills and excellentcommunication skills
  • Must be a strategic thinker to understand long-term safety strategies
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and occupational safety, and health regulations


Safety Coordinator Physical Requirements



  • Seeing, Hearing/Listening, Color Perception (Red, Green, Amber), Clear Speech, Touching (Dexterity, Hand, Finger)
  • Pushing/Pulling/Lifting/Carrying 25 pounds, Driving (local/over the road), Sitting Long Periods, Standing Long Periods, Climbing/Descending Ladders


Safety Coordinator Working Environment



  • Work with Others, Verbal Contact with Others, Face-to-Face Contact, Inside, Outside
  • Mechanical/Electrical/Pressurized Equipment, Moving Objects
