The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

This Technician B would work under the supervision of Dr. Emily Lowry to evaluate the effects of new drug candidates in mouse and cell culture models of ALS. The efficacy of these drugs would be evaluated through behavioral and histological analyses in mice and in survival and histological analyses in cells from ALS patients. This position would also involve light administrative duties to plan experiments and maintain lab supplies.

Responsibilities



  • Research responsibilities: 75%:

    • Immunohistochemistry - 20%
    • Microscopy (epifluorescence and confocal) - 20%
    • Mouse behavioral analysis - 10%
    • Tissue dissection - 10%
    • Tissue culture - 10%
    • Administration of drugs to mice - 5%




  • Administrative responsibilities: 25%:

    • Order lab supplies - 5%
    • Sign for and store lab supplies once they arrive - 5%
    • Maintain lab notebook, and experimental calendar - 5%
    • Provide informal weekly research updates to supervisor and PI - 5%
    • Other duties as assigned- 5%




Minimum Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.




Preferred Qualifications




  • Experience with basic rodent handling



  • Experience with aseptic tissue culture technique



  • Experience with immunocytochemistry or other common tissue staining techniques



  • Experience with basic microscopy



  • Experience with data analysis software such as Prism, SPSS, R




Other Requirements




  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel



  • Strong communication and organizational skills
