BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 29 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency. SCOPE OF WORK: The Financial Coaching intern works with IRC Financial Coaches to provide educational tools and resources, financial coaching, and guidance to clients accessing IRC loan products to meet client-identified goals to increase their financial capability. Tasks may include conducting outreach to clients, supporting clients with loan applications, and assisting in developing workshops. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Support facilitation of credit education and financial literacy training with clients * Support continued curriculum development for workshops covering financial literacy topics * Research local agencies and organizations to expand community partnerships for client referrals and support advocacy efforts * Develop personal finance tools and resources, including translatable user guides, to share with clients * Assist clients with IRC's Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) loan applications and access to bank accounts * Attend staff meetings, team meetings, and training related to the position * Provide general administrative support Minimum Qualifications: * Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduate. * Strong interest in working with clients from broad global environments * Familiarity with a coaching model and related activities * Proven ability to work with consideration and respect * Excellent communication and organizational skills * Ability to work independently * Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and internet research * Enthusiasm for helping people to learn and demonstrated professionalism * Interns must be able to work at least 15 hours a week for at least three months * Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle preferred This position is unpaid and reports to the Financial Coach.
