Additional Job Description: West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedics seek a Sports Medicine Surgeon (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV. Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the area of orthopaedic sports surgery with an emphasis on general and complex shoulder surgery. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. This will involve teaching in the clinic, operating room, and didactic settings. Interest and success in scholarly research is expected. This is a full-time faculty position with an emphasis on caring for patients with a wide variety of sports medicine related injuries. This faculty member will serve as a team physician for West Virginia University athletic programs. They will work closely with the athletic training staff and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative manner to provide the best possible care for the athletes. Prior experience as a Team Physician at a University level is preferred. Qualifications: Applicants must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical licensure. Candidates must have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship and be board certified/eligible in orthopaedic surgery. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. Our Department of Orthopaedics has approximately 40 full-time faculty in all sub-specialty areas of Orthopaedics including spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, pediatrics, trauma, musculoskeletal oncology, and basic science. Our faculty are fellowship trained and respected nationally, but we emphasize more than surgical expertise - our mission is that as the Department of Orthopaedics at West Virginia University, our thriving, collaborative team of musculoskeletal specialists is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care by achieving excellence in patient outcomes and continually improving our clinical operations. Our sports practice serves West Virginia University athletic programs, working closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals.
