Functional area: Business Development Remuneration: Exempt This position will be part of Utility-Scale Central Region Development team that is responsible for environmental permitting of projects in the US, primarily in the Midwest. This position will be heavily focused on wind, solar and battery storage development permitting. Work will include but is not limited to working with local, state and federal agencies to facilitate and obtain the necessary permits/authorizations needed to construct our projects. Includes the creation and implementation of mitigation strategies for multiple environmental resources. The Environmental and Permitting Manager reports to VP of Central Region Development. Role Responsibilities:
- Manage permitting activities throughout the site development process for a pipeline of wind, solar, storage and green fuels projects including: review of environmental studies, State and Federal agency consultations, tribal meetings, and community relations
- Assists with the preparation of NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) and state environmental documents, including EISs, EAs, and other federal, state, and local environmental permits as needed Supervises the work of project environmental consultants, managing project schedules and budgets and ensuring quality of documents
- Develop strategies to mitigate environmental impacts of projects from project inception through post-construction
- Responds to internal environmental and permitting-related inquiries in support of Power Purchase Agreement bids, project financing, and third-party due diligence
- Advises Project Managers, company Development Directors and others regarding the environmental permitting of projects from planning phases through implementation
- Attends agency meetings as needed, and leads strategy meetings in preparation of these meetings
- Creation of an environmental/permitting compliance matrix for handoff to Construction/OPS Group
Job Requirements and Experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business/economics, environmental science, or relevant fields
- Minimum 8 years relevant permitting experience with US-based infrastructure and/or renewable energy projects
- Experience with state permitting of renewable energy projects is desired
- Experience working on complex projects with government agencies preferred, including USACE, FWS, state and local agencies
- Knowledge of relevant state, local, and federal regulations and guidelines
- Experience reading and complying with regulations and guidelines, organizing documents, and editing is necessary
- Exceptional project management skills
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
- Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
- Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
- Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable
- Detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts
- Strong problem-solving abilities, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and work ethic
- This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $140,000 - $170,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
