Job Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Informatics Operations (IO), this full-time, benefits-eligible position acts as a Bioinformatics Analyst within IO. One of the primary goals of IO is to facilitate research opportunities within the University of Colorado that leverage the Biobank housed within CCPM. The person in this position will be primarily responsible for building and maintaining both research and clinical pipelines that use data generated through the CCPM Biobank. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: leading the creation and maintenance of annual research freezes, providing bioinformatics support of current and future clinical pipelines, preparing documentation of research and clinical pipelines, and preparing scientific presentations and manuscripts. Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Informatics Operations (IO) Supervision Exercised: None Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in and/or lead the development and implementation of complex analysis pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for large genomics and biobank-scale datasets
- Engage in population-scale genomic data analysis using bash scripting and parallel programming in a High-Performance Computing (HPC)/cluster Unix/Linux environment
- Help ensure pipelines accurately and reliably process genetic data for delivery into patients' records for clinical care
- Create and maintain documentation to support informatics pipelines and meet project management delivery schedules

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Senior Level:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in bioinformatics, genetics, or a related field
- Two (2) years of experience using scientific principles and concepts of NGS and GWAS (Illumina) analysis, including experience in the following areas: coding (particularly with R or Python), Unix environments, cloud-computing, relational databases/SQL2*
- 2+ years of experience with Python/R*
- 2+ years of experience working with Unix and/or Linux, including shell scripting*
Principal Level:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in bioinformatics, genetics, or a related field
- Four (4) years of experience using scientific principles and concepts of NGS and GWAS (Illumina) analysis, including experience in the following areas: coding (particularly with R or Python), Unix environments, cloud-computing, relational databases/SQL2*
- 4+ years of experience with Python/R*
- 4+ years of experience working with Unix and/or Linux, including shell scripting*
*Experience may be obtained simultaneously Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in bioinformatics, genetics, or a related field
- Pipeline development and standard tools for large-scale genomic data inference (e.g., PLINK, PCA, HAIL, GATK)
- Experience with queue management software in high-performance computing environments
- Advanced Perl and/or Python Programming
- Experience with data engineering and data orchestration tools (Nextflow, Snakemake, WDL, etc.)
- Experience developing and deploying containerized workflows (Docker, Singularity, etc.)
- Documented open-source contributions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
- Demonstrated commitment to advance diversity and inclusion

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as: Senior Level: $66,346 to $88,904 Principal Level: $76,299 to $102,240 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
