Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The College of Education Future Teachers of North Carolina PIRATE program seeks to hire a Program Coordinator to assist with the planning, development, and implementation of a three-day, two-night summer program called Pirate Institute for Regional Aspiring Teachers and Educators. During the PIRATE program, rising high school Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will participate in an immersive on-campus experience and learn about ECU, Teacher Education programs, and student life.
Job Duties
The Program Coordinator will work with the PIRATE Program Director, Residence Life Coordinators, Student Leaders and other ECU Faculty and staff to administer and manage the program. The program dates are June 18-20, 2025. The Program Coordinator will assist with planning and preparation prior to the event and assist with program, staff and participant management and leadership during the event.
The Program Coordinator will assist with program preparation and instruction and oversee the safety and well-being of program participants. The Program Coordinator is required to stay in an ECU residence hall with program participants. Meals will be provided during in-person training and throughout the duration of the event.

Supervision & Leadership (70%)
The PIRATE Program Coordinator will assist the Program Director with the supervision and management of 12 program staff including Residence Life Coordinators, Medical/Nurse Staff and Student Leaders. The Program Coordinator will also assist with providing leadership, guidance, and activities for approximately 75 high school students who are interested in exploring a career in teaching/education. The Program Coordinator must complete required, mandatory training sessions.
The PIRATE Program Coordinator will maintain positive rapport with program staff, program participants, ECU faculty/staff, campus partners, parents, and key stakeholders. The Program Coordinator will ensure that program participants and staff are safely transported to various locations during the event.
The PIRATE Program Coordinator will assist program staff with a variety of tasks including but not limited to planning icebreakers, teambuilders, and networking activities. The PIRATE Program Coordinator will lead and help facilitate discussions during sessions and during meetings as needed. Additionally, they will answer questions, problem-solve and provide appropriate guidance to program staff and participants. The PIRATE Program Coordinator will develop a list of supplies needed by program staff for various activities/sessions and will request and organize program supplies and materials and coordinate the organization, transportation and distribution of program supplies during the event. The PIRATE Program Coordinator will manage and maintain regular, effective communication with all program staff through various channels, including email, online platforms, phone calls, and in-person prior to and during the event.
Administration (30%)
The Program Coordinator will assist with the coordination and assignment of program staff tasks/duties prior to and during the event. This includes the creation and assignment of program staff schedules, tasks and duties prior to and during the event. The PIRATE Program Coordinator will maintain timely communication with program staff, program participants, ECU faculty/staff, campus partners, parents, and key stakeholders. Ensure that required program documents and documentation is secured, handled with confidentiality, accurate, organized and provided to the Program Director. Develop supply lists for icebreaker and teambuilding activities. Create and/or maintain accident/incident reports, and any required program. Provide customer service to program participants, families and guests during the program. Assist with program setup, check-in and closing activities. Promote the PIRATE program online and via social media outlets and professional networks.

Perform other duties as needed/assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
Requires a Bachelor's degree in education, teaching, or other related area.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Valid driver's license
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience with teaching, instruction, developing and implementing leadership activities, program administration and oversight is desired. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Good written and oral communication skills.
