Description

Brown and Caldwell has an exciting job opportunity for a self-motivated Engineer to join our Columbus team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting office with a diverse technical staff of geologists, engineers, and scientists. The selected candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior staff working on a variety of environmental related projects.

Detailed Description:



  • Perform engineering work with the water/wastewater engineering group
  • Work on engineering designs preparing reports, construction plans, specifications, calculations, equipment selection, and cost estimates for various projects
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing
  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables
  • Assist with studies and alternative analysis
  • Develop understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements for Columbus and State of Ohio
  • Assist with development of permitting plans and permit application
  • Duties also include field activities and site investigations
  • Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation


Desired Skills and Experience:



  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering (or related) required, M.S. a plus
  • Experience and/or coursework in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance required
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, results-oriented, reliable, and able to work well with a wide variety of coworkers and subcontractors.
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD, MATLAB) a plus
  • Experience using AutoCAD preferred
  • Experience using ArcGIS a plus
  • Experience using hydraulic modeling software a plus
  • Must be willing to work in the field periodically.
  • Field assignments require ability to perform physically demanding work.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification a plus.
  • Candidates should have a strong desire and be motivated to obtain a Fundamentals of Engineering certification, followed by the Registered Professional Engineer licensure or equivalent licensure within 3-5 years.
  • Excellent technical writing capabilities required.
  • Must be proficient in using standard computer programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with MS Project, MS Access, CADD, ArcGIS, a plus
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, etc.
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction operations (i.e. pouring concrete).
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
  • Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $58,000 - $79,000
