Against a backdrop of increasing competition, possible regulatory intervention, technology modernization and shifting consumer expectations, it is critical that Optum Financial upgrade our product and customer experience capabilities to provide best-in-class experience for all consumers we serve. This involves creating a frictionless consumer experience integrating disparate experiences across Optum Financial's Employer, Payer, and Direct to Consumer businesses.

The Chief Product Officer, Consumer Business, Optum Financial will lead the overall product development, delivery and platform team to bring to market best in class financial services and payments products both for offline and digital consumer experiences. This role will entail:



  • Building a world class Product function by bringing together existing product teams across multiple lines of business & building out all core functions around product design, UI/UX, testing, etc.
  • Partnering with line of business leaders to define and deliver an optimized product roadmap for 2025+ and manage $50MM+ in capital investments associated with build and delivery; this leader will work across Optum Financial and UHG to ensure the business case and the
  • return on investment is being validated at the Optum Financial level.
  • Working closely with lines of business to define future product strategies and constructs; provide market leading views on disruptive and competitive product capabilities and development approaches.
  • Partnering closely with Technology, Operations and Optum Digital team to define and address product development requirements.
  • Accountability for delivering seamless product experiences to market and ongoing management of product performance from an operational and capability standpoint; partner with line of business leaders on customer and financial product performance.

Responsibilities:



  • Developing and championing a product vision and strategy that is aligned with the Consumer business strategy, as well as the long-range plan for Optum Financial
  • Ensuring that the roadmap delivers great business value and technology outcomes, in addition to continually improving the omni-channel consumer experience.
  • Establishes a shared product, solution, or service vision across Consumer by building consensus on priorities leading to product execution, and ensuring that the product, solution, or service is aligned with Optum Financial's brand, strategic and competitive position, and other
  • related/interfaced product, solution, or service.
  • Making product decisions based on data, metrics and most importantly, the various consumers involved to create new experiences that delight.
  • Defining and influencing product designs and overall user experience.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to deliver high-velocity features using agile methodologies.
  • Aligning with key business stakeholders to develop and champion a product vision and strategy that is aligned to business goals.
  • Making product decisions based on data, metrics and most importantly, consumer research.
  • Serves as an Executive partner to senior leaders across Optum Financial, Optum, UHG, external partners, and clients to engage in designing new transformational products/businesses.
  • Defining and influencing product designs and overall user experience
  • Leading the way in creating new experiences that delight our consumers and maximize self-service through digital adoption.
  • Designing and implementing a cohesive and seamless digital consumer experience
  • Leading a team of product managers, business and project managers
  • Collaborating with engineering partners, design teams and internal systems owners
  • Fostering a true team spirit and a highly collaborative environment
  • Ensuring the creation of lean and scalable features with clear intent at high velocity, while understanding how to optimize cycle times for rapid go-to-market
  • Provide exceptional people leadership with a focus on engaging, developing, and retaining key talent, as well as attracting top talent into the organization.

Required Qualifications:



  • 15+ years of senior leadership level experience with building a product development and delivery function for a financial service business.
  • Solid focus on customer as north star and delivering value added solutions and great customer experiences.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale multi-channel digital product organizations.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex market opportunities and develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique market problems.
  • Demonstrated track-record of active collaboration, engagement, oversight, and strategy development of key growth opportunities.
  • Ability to liaison with business, technology and operations partners; comfortable in a matrixed environment
  • Seasoned team leader, proven ability to lead and motivate a team of product and technology professionals to deliver high quality experiences in a fast-paced and rapidly growing environment.
  • Track record of driving strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation in digital platforms, prioritizing business initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment and management of current and future digital applications
  • History of navigating large complex organizations and bringing together cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships that build a high degree of collaboration across all levels and areas of an organization.
  • A demonstrated record of acting as an innovative thought leader and business partner to executives across multiple business units.
  • Has functioned as the organization's authority and established expert to develop solutions based on an understanding of the business environment, competitive landscape, and objectives.
  • Experience motivating, developing, coaching, and guiding direct and indirect staff in a matrixed organization through change across multiple geographies.
  • Curious and hands-on leadership style that ensures a team understands the vision and is motivated to deliver.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • MBA or Master's degree.
  • Located in New York, NY or Eden Prairie, MN

The salary range for this role is $250,000 to $350,000 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
