Senior Civil Engineer (Engineering & Public Works)

JOB SUMMARY:

This position manages the implementation of a variety of capital projects, recommends hiring and managing consultants on a variety of professional consulting agreements; supervises the work of engineering division personnel with the division; and performs professional engineering tasks.

We are looking for a candidate who excels at working collaboratively within a team, clearly communicating both inside and outside the organization, readily adapting to changing circumstances, and actively contributing towards achieving shared objectives across the organization.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Plans and implements capital improvement projects, including preparing engineering studies, requests for qualifications, requests for proposals, project designs, drawings and specifications, engineering and construction cost estimates, and bidding documents. Assists in the evaluation, selection, and supervision of professional consultants.

2. Oversees construction management of village capital improvement projects including preparing and reviewing competitive bids and makes a recommendation to award the contract to a contractor.

3. Serves as Engineering Division Manager in the absence of the Engineering Division Manager.

4. Prepares and evaluates future capital improvement projects for approval by the village Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Committee.

5. Prepares agenda items and committee reports and presents them at village committee meetings as required or as directed by the Engineering Division Manager or the Director.

6. Recommends solutions and revisions of existing projects.

7. Works directly with representatives of other departments, including the assistant village manager and directors, on issues relating to public improvement projects or to provide expertise as needed.

8. Works directly with residents and businesses impacted by village projects and is responsible for providing interactive public relations on projects with significant impacts on the public.

9. Acts as the division lead for the hiring of engineering technicians, interns, and independent contractors.

10. Oversees computer applications for engineering-related functions.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

2. A minimum of three years of experience in the field of civil engineering, such as that gained with a Village or City Engineering Department, a contractor or consultant specializing in engineering design for public works improvement and land development.

3. A minimum of one year of supervisory experience coordinating a range of activities undertaken by others that involve directing, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of staff.

4. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the State of Illinois.

5. Possession of a valid driver's license.

6. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $98,345.00 - $109,409.00annually dependent on qualifications.The salary range for this position is $98,345.00 -$145,601.00.
