Description

Incite at Columbia University invites applications for a Staff Associate III position. Under the supervision of the Director of the Columbia Labor Lab at Incite and in partnership with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the SAIII will work on projects to evaluate the merits of leveraging data and technology to enhance labor organizing efforts, including an effort to modernize existing data systems. In particular, the SAIII will liaison directly with the organizing and data team at Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to leverage data and technology to enhance labor organizing efforts.

Specific Duties will Include:

10% -- Regular communication with the Research Manager and Faculty at Columbia Labor Lab on new and existing projects with the goal of identifying strategies to test novel approaches to member engagement.

90% -- Work directly with the data and organizing team at SEIU as a participant in the planning and implementation of management membership systems and data warehouses. The SAIII will gather requirements for membership management systems, research alternative solutions, and make recommendations to SEIU campaign leadership to test novel strategies for increasing membership and member engagement. The role will also be responsible for primary implementation, data migration, and team adoption of the member management system. This role will also build data systems and pipelines that make information from the member management system available to other functional teams within the SEIU, as well as building organizing tools on top of the data. All systems will need to have robust privacy and access controls.


Qualifications

MA

Experience with Python, open-source relational databases, Django and Flask web frameworks, ETL, SQL, data privacy and access controls. Strong analytic skills. Strong writing skills. Ability to convey complex ideas quickly and efficiently. Knowledge of the current and historical landscape in labor organizing. Good interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to work on a team.
