Description

Reporting to a program manager and under the close supervision of instructional staff, to assist instructors and students in an individualized or open lab setting by performing supportive duties in the educational process following established procedures and guidelines.Such as assisting students with self-directed instructional materials and equipment, explaining non-instructional procedures, and scoring tests. Other duties performed are of a clerical or custodial nature such as maintaining records, duplicating materials, maintaining lab, and maintaining equipment and supplies. Work requires little independent decision-making or judgment beyond the structure and guidelines of the position and does not require any specialized or advanced knowledge, skills, education, or experience to perform.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

Assist instructor with individualized instruction of students:

  1. Distribute and monitor instructional supplies and equipment to students and assist them in finding appropriate materials.
  2. Assist in setting up and demonstrating equipment and explain non-instructional procedures and rules of the lab to students.
  3. Assist students on an individual basis with understanding basic assignments.
  4. Hand out, monitor, and/or collect assignments and tests as directed.
  5. Score tests, using keys, tables or other special instructions and guidelines as directed. May calculate and average grades for reports.
  6. Record and maintain files of student attendance and grades.
  7. Organize and maintain files of instructional materials and supplies.
Assist in maintaining laboratory setting:
  1. Obtain and set-up audio-visual equipment and other laboratory equipment and supplies as required.
  2. Maintain inventory of supplies following established systems; order supplies as needed; perform routine maintenance of equipment and/or arrange for maintenance and repair service as necessary.
  3. Clean and maintain orderliness of lab which may include locking and unlocking lab area, and ensuring for the proper storage, placement, and safeguarding of equipment and supplies.
Provide non-instructional assistance to students:
  1. Assist with student club activities as appropriate.
  2. Assist with arranging field trips and other special activities for students.
  3. Assist with the registration process where appropriate.
Provide support and assistance to instructors:
  1. Perform routine clerical duties such as light typing of tests, forms and other materials; duplicating and collating materials; filing; preparing forms; answering telephones; processing mail; and related duties.
  2. Prepare and maintain bulletin boards and other displays.
  3. Pick up and deliver supplies, materials and small equipment from/to on and off campus locations.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of Business English, grammar, reading, and basic math such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, decimals, and percent.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively and to work effectively with students, instructors, and other staff.
  3. Ability to learn, understand, and follow written and oral instructions and routine procedures.
  4. Aptitude for organization and detail to maintain and file records.
  5. Ability to type at least 35 WPM to type routine materials such as forms, envelopes, file labels, etc.
  6. Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of audio-visual and instructional equipment.
  7. Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

This position is a casual position working up to 14/hours per week. Position is not eligible for benefits.
