The Electrical Designer at Helix Electric is an essential part of our engineering team who works on modeling the electrical systems, performing calculations and photometric studies, and designing the equipment connections for various types of projects. Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- The Electrical Designer will utilize electrical design concepts to produce full sets of construction documents for various types of projects.
- Coordinate the best design solutions for electrical systems by applying industry knowledge and quality standards while considering customer needs and budgeting requirements.
- Electrical Designers will train and work with licensed professionals in a collaborative team to perform a variety of design tasks and work directly with Revit CADD technicians to ensure quality and review constructability.
- Applying code knowledge to light, power, and telecom systems.
- Perform photometric studies, selective coordination / short circuit analysis, and voltage drop calculations.
- Support the functioning of the Engineering Department, the education and development of junior personnel, on-going development and maintenance of computerized project info databases, congenial relations with clients and vendors.
- Work under deadline pressures in an efficient, composed, and calm manner.
- Help create and communicate company standards for electrical design/build plans and specs work.
- Additional duties as assigned by management
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (is preferred but not required) or applicable work experience in the Electrical design industry, or a combination of both is required for more experienced positions.
- A minimum of 3 years of electrical design experience in building electrical power systems design, building lighting systems design, load calculations, fault current calculations, and mechanical systems coordination for multi-family residential, hospitality, commercial, light industrial and institutional projects.
- Working knowledge/fluency with Revit, AutoCAD, and lighting/photometric analysis software.
- Knowledge and proficiency with electrical codes requirements (NEC, ASHRAE, IBC, IECC, etc.), basic electrical engineering design, and electrical system calculations.
- Ability to produce schedules (panels, conduit, nameplates, etc.), one-line and schematic diagrams, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience working with SKM System Analysis and Agi32 and/or Visual - lighting software to produce electrical design
- A very good communicator who can read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals and RFI's.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office software's.
