This program aims to modernize the VA's Single Sign-On (SSO) technology to enhance security, user experience, and operational efficiency.
Position Overview
We are seeking a UX Content Writer to join our team and craft clear, engaging, and user-friendly plain language content for digital products. As part of a cross-functional team, you will collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and subject matter experts to ensure content enhances usability, accessibility, and clarity. The ideal candidate is skilled at writing concise, effective copy that guides users through digital experiences. You should have experience working with product and design teams, following content guidelines, and refining messaging to align with product goals.
Responsibilities
Write, edit, and refine UX copy, including interface text, error messages, microcopy, tooltips, and other user-facing content.
- Ensure content aligns with brand voice, style guidelines, and accessibility standards (including Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 compliance).
- Collaborate with designers and product teams to create content that supports usability and enhances the user experience.
- Maintain consistency in terminology, tone, and messaging across products.
- Organize and manage content within design systems and content repositories.
- Work within an agile development process, responding to feedback and making content updates as needed.
- Create and maintain documentation and training content for VA staff and Veterans.
- Advocate for clear, user-centered language in all product communications.
Required Experience/Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in UX writing, content writing, or technical writing for digital products.
- Strong ability to simplify complex, policy-heavy, or technical information for broad audiences.
- Experience writing for digital interfaces, ensuring clarity and usability.
- Familiarity with content design and office tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, Word) and content management systems.
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of accessibility best practices and inclusive language.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications
- Experience working on government, civic tech, or public service projects.
- Background in working with design systems and structured content frameworks.
- Experience writing technical guides and training documents for large-scale systems.
- Knowledge of VA systems and processes, and cybersecurity principles.
- Experience collaborating with designers and product teams in an Agile environment.
