Job Description:

This is the advanced journey-level position in this classification series. Within the areas described in the primary job function, works independently with minimal supervision. This position can be located in Bakersfield, San Jose, or Torrance, CA.

Essential Functions:

  • With limited direction from an engineer or supervisor, creates construction-level drawings in CAD using advanced packages

  • Assists in the development and implementation of new software, standards, procedures, and processes

  • Project management responsibilities, including limited responsibility for advanced projects

  • Properly documents work and maintains records in databases and paper files

  • Leads topographic surveys in the field using a total station

  • Leads field work for engineers, field staff, and other technicians.

  • Coordinates field work to obtain data, measurements, and/or GPS coordinates, with limited supervision

  • Trains new technicians and field staff

  • Occasionally directs other technicians

  • Independently conducts research on existing infrastructure using databases, maps, drawings, photos, and paper files, with limited support

  • Performs algebraic and geometric or financial calculations

  • Operates specific hardware such as large format printers and scanners

  • Responsible for personal safety at all times

  • Records Management

  • Operates an assigned company vehicle for travel to field locations

  • Participates in Continuous Improvement (CI) activities to improve all aspects of the company's operations

  • Performs work on-site in the assigned office location

  • Performs other duties as assigned as appropriate for the classification

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent

  • Advanced proficiency in all job-related software and hardware. Thisincludes CAD, Civil 3D, surveying equipment, Maximo, GPS devices, ArcGIS software, etc.

  • Additional education or on-the-job senior-level experience in a related technical area

  • Technical knowledge and ability needed to complete the job assignments and to train newer technicians to complete job assignments

  • Successfully completes all essential tasks for the functional area and level or demonstrates the capability to perform

  • Exercises good judgement to prioritize assignments and work in order of urgency and sensitivity

  • Properly plans, prioritizes, and documents work

  • Valid California Class C Driver's License

  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications

  • Advanced knowledge of water and wastewater systems and assets

  • Project Management skills

Salary Range: $43.23 - $63.28
