HDR is currently seeking an Area Accounting Lead to support the operations of the Nebraska-Iowa Engineering Area and manage the Project Accounting team. This position provides assurance to the Area Management team and Regional Leadership that the Area's practices and procedures are aligned with HDR policies, accounting principles, and governmental compliance standards. Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and management skills are essential for effectively leading the accounting staff in performing various project and financial functions. The role's primary responsibilities will be leadership, support for all facets of project/contract financial management, and ensuring general accounting functions are maintained for the Area. These responsibilities are further detailed below. Project/Contract Financial Management:
- Drive the rolling 12 forecast process, collaborating with Area & Business Group Managers and Marketing
- Provide training and support to ensure adherence to Project Accounting (PA) best practices and guidelines.
- Support regular PA & Project Management (PM) meetings, facilitating when appropriate based on PA skill-level and/or complexity of project/issues.
- Utilize the BI projects dashboard for project and financial reviews.
- Lead effective monthly revenue review meetings, including ensuring PA preparation, maintenance of meaningful notes, and timely action item follow-up.
- Ensure PAs are invoicing timely, manage Accounts Receivable (AR) tracking, and confirm detailed notes exist for aged AR.
- Monitor project closeouts for timeliness and adherence to prescribed process.
- Provide project accounting support for complex projects as needed.
General/Departmental Accounting Functions: Manage the Area's general accounting functions through:
- Performing monthly overhead cost review and general ledger analysis, including investigating variances/anomalies and escalating and correcting issues.
- Identifying and addressing Area Management's financial and reporting needs, which may include providing data on: loaned/borrowed labor, multiplier, utilization, marketing/proposal data requests, Accounts Receivable, MSPL, client rate sheets, etc.
Provide oversight of the department accountant(s) responsible for:
- Accounts Payable processing, including vendor invoices, subconsultant payments, corporate credit card transactions, purchase requisitions, training/conference events, and cost recovery.
- Tracking and reporting on Area vehicle usage and TDY costs.
- Producing reports and back-up for overhead cost/general ledger research and to support Project Accounting needs.
- General timecard administration processes, and monitoring labor and expense report adjustments.
- Addressing employee expense report questions.
Leadership and Team Management:
- In coordination with the Assistant Area Accounting Lead, manage the Area's Accounting team, including performance reviews, timesheet approvals, workload balancing, hiring, and training & development.
- Monitor monthly deadlines and drive process efficiencies and standardization.
- Foster integration between Omaha Engineering/Architecture accounting teams.
- Address staffing needs and provide backfill support as needed.
- Communicate effectively with Area Management and Regional Accounting, including proactive escalation of potential issues.
- Complete special projects as requested by Area Management or Regional Accounting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Architecture/Engineering/Construction (A/E/C) experience highly desired
- Experience with cost or project accounting and budgeting
- Complex invoicing and contractual requirements expertise
- Oracle EBS/Hyperion experience a plus
- Energetic and positive leader who takes initiative to provide solutions

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience; an advanced degree may offset years of experience
- Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
- Excellent verbal and written communication including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling and telephone skills
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to handle confidential information
