The Paralegal, Intellectual Property Patent Prosecution plays a critical role in providing comprehensive support to our attorneys and clients throughout the patent prosecution process. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of patent law and be exceptionally organized while working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The position is responsible for monitoring and meeting numerous deadlines for a large and active patent portfolio.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of assigned U.S. and foreign patent prosecution matters, including preparing and filing patent applications, preparing pre-examination responses, working closely with assigned agents/attorneys, and coordinating with inventors and clients
  • Coordinate the preparation and filing of formality documents including oaths, powers of attorney, assignments, information disclosure statements, and formal drawings
  • Correspond with clients, attorneys, and foreign law firms regarding all aspects of the patent prosecution process
  • Monitor approaching deadlines, take appropriate action, and follow-up with relevant parties
  • Research and maintain working knowledge of US and foreign patent prosecution rules and procedures and navigate and utilize a plethora of patent related websites and databases
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic files

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred, or commensurate experience
  • 5 years of patent paralegal experience, preferred
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong judgment, initiative, integrity and be a dependable, highly motivated, team player
  • Strong understanding of patent docketing systems, legal research tools, and document management software
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex, patent-related information to people at all levels of the organization and external parties
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Flexibility to operate independently and in a team atmosphere with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Ability to work overtime when required
