Job Summary
As a member of the Pharmacy/Research Enterprise leadership team, director will provide programmatic, compliance and strategic oversight and coordination of all aspects of investigational drug services across the pharmacy enterprises. The Pharmacy Director in the area of Investigational Drugs will oversee clinical, operational, financial, regulatory and human resources management of all research and investigational drug services. The Director works directly with research and medical staff leadership, nursing, and pharmacy to promote practice that achieves quality outcomes and medication safety that contribute to the overall success of the research enterprise.
The Director champions inter-functional collaboration and communication across work areas and multi-site pharmacy departments.
Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy for their respective site
- Serves as the primary leader responsible for program oversight and all pharmacy research related matters. Serves as the primary compliance expert on investigational drug program details, policies, and procedures, and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards and proper Investigational Drug Product Accountability and Documentation. Works with IDS, HRI Leadership, Nursing Leadership, physicians, pharmacists, and other department managers and key committees to promote safe and effective use of investigational drugs. Provides oversight over investigational drug product dose preparation and dispensing. Provides oversight over monitoring visits and /or audits of the clinical research pharmacy and support such activities at the enterprise level. Actively engages with senior leadership and participates in decision-making processes related to the expansion of the research program and /or changes of program. Provides oversight and leadership of clinical and investigational initiatives in all disease site programs through affiliations with organizations such as NCCN, HOPA, ASH, ASCO, SWOG, COG to advance the clinical program and ensure that these initiatives meet the safety, quality, and financial goals of the organization.
- Sets example for others in work quality, efficiency, productivity, and personal conduct standards. Monitors productivity of employees and initiates modifications to improve productivity. Ensures delivery of pharmacy services within budgeted level of resources. Monitors annual operating budgets for the areas of responsibility, compares actual and budgeted activity and explains variances. Recommends cost containment programs, and policies and/or procedures to improve efficiency, economy, and effectiveness. Works collaboratively toward solutions that accomplish network organizational objectives
- Attract, retain, and develop a quality Clinical Pharmacy Staff across the enterprise. Ensures clinical research pharmacy staff training and competency. Champions inter-functional collaboration and communication across multi-site pharmacy services. Conducts regular staff meetings and meets individually with staff to review performance, solve problems, and promote efficiency. Facilitates solutions to problems and resolves complaints regarding departmental services and activities. Projects a customer service attitude by being attentive, responsive, courteous, and compassionate to customers (e.g., patients, physicians, nurses, and students).
- Formulates departmental policy and procedure; ensures adherence to infusion network, hospital, health system and departmental policies and procedures and applicable state and federal.
Enforces health system and hospital's departmental policies and procedures and ensures compliance with pertinent state and federal laws and regulations. Ensure facilities, security, and accountability according to HRI, FDA, and DNV guidelines, and other regulatory requirements. Ensures that all equipment and facility requirements are compliant with all investigational drug services requirements. Acts as the liaison with internal affiliated departments and external stakeholders to ensure program integrity.
- Represent the pharmacy enterprise in all research related committees. Participates on departmental, hospital, health system and school of pharmacy committees, actively participates in national, state and regional professional organizations.

Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy Required
Experience
10 years Pharmacy practice experience or equivalent Required
3 years of research medication experience Required

Licenses and Certifications
Registered Pharmacist (RPh) Must obtain State of Arizona licensure within 90 Days Required
