Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000-$95,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. About the Role:

The Privacy Analyst will be responsible for working with Bureau Chief Privacy Officers to ensure that the Department's bureaus operate in compliance with the requirements in the Privacy Act of 1974, the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), the privacy provisions of the E-Government Act of 2002, as well as Office of Management and Budget (OMB) guidance and National Institutes for Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and guidelines. Provide efficient processing of Privacy Act (PA) requests and review and clearance of PA System of Records Notices (SORNs).

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:



  • Facilitates engagement between the multiple stakeholders in identifying best practices to ensure a consistent and efficient approach for complying with federal privacy laws and policies.
  • Reviews and coordinates approval by the Senior Agency Official for Privacy of privacy notices, privacy plans, and privacy risk assessments.
  • Provides support that privacy complaints and incidents are coordinated properly, reported systematically, processed, and mitigated efficiently, and communicated appropriately in accordance with federal privacy laws and directives, and Department policies and procedures.
  • Provides support to ensure the consideration and protection of privacy in the collection, maintenance, use, sharing, and disposal of personal information about individuals across bureau programs and activities.
  • Reviews privacy plans for information systems that create, collect, use, process, store, maintain, disseminate, disclose, and dispose of PII prior to authorization, reauthorization, or ongoing authorization.
  • Ensures the Senior Agency Official for Privacy is made aware of information systems and components that cannot be appropriately protected or secured.
  • Reviews and manages the internal clearance of reports of new, modified, or rescinded systems of records for Department review, for OMB, and for Congress.
  • Reviews Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) required by the privacy provisions of the E-Government Act of 2002, as well as OMB and Department guidance.
  • Reviews the creation, collection, use, processing, storage, maintenance, dissemination, disclosure, or disposal of PII to the extent reasonably practicable, that such PII is accurate, relevant, timely, and complete and to reduce the Department's PII holdings to the minimum necessary for the proper performance of authorized agency functions.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.


Experience Requirements:



  • Two (2) years or more of strong knowledge of the PA.
  • Two (2) years or more in reviewing records for disclosure for PA requests.
  • Technical Credibility - Familiarity with privacy laws, rules, and regulations such as the Privacy Act of 1974, the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), the privacy provisions of the E-Government Act of 2002 and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars and guidance. Knowledge of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and guidelines, including NIST Special Publication 800-37 and 800-53. Knowledge of privacy risk assessment methodologies, information technology, information systems, and the systems development life cycle (SDLC).


Education Requirements:



  • Associates degree required.


Other Required Skills & Abilities:



  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customer and fulfill all duties and responsibilities as listed in the contract.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
