The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the company's IFRS and Statutory accounting processes. As the subject matter expert in multi-basis accounting, they provide guidance, develop operating procedures and implement those procedures to ensure the application is consistent so that all activity is properly recorded in books and records under IFRS and Statutory Accounting bases. Leads staff responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger across all bases of accounting and ensures balances are appropriate and supported by source systems. What you will do:
- Responsible for accurate and timely accounting and reporting in the general ledger including journal entries, account reconciliations and key aspects of the IFRS and Statutory close across all accounting bases.
- Manages IFRS 9 Investment Contract Liability accounting and reporting, including review of reconciliation of account values to source, and associated audit review processes. Serves as a point of contact to our Parent Company on our IFRS reporting package.
- Manages the close of financial results on both IFRS and statutory accounting bases and owns and understands reconciliation differences between IFRS and Statutory basis of accounting.
- Works closely with cross functional stakeholders in Finance. Works closely with internal and external auditors.
- Responsible for process improvement to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently. Through these efforts, ensures strong collaboration with related/impacted teams.
- Maintains an effective control environment with proper, transparent and intuitive account analysis and reviews. Mitigates control deficiencies identified with robust remediation plans.
- Serves as subject matter expert for SAP. Works with end users to build and maintain automated solutions for manual processes within the Insurance Accounting team. Understands SAP reporting structure and use model and assists with generation of reports to support daily operations.
- Continuously monitors changes in business processes due to significant transactions and ensures we update our SAP use model accordingly.
- Liaisons within the Insurance Accounting team to analyze and propose use cases for enhanced SAP use model.
- Subject matter expert for data sources in the insurance accounting and reinsurance accounting function. Identify source data needs and solutions to be utilized in IFRS and Statutory accounting and reporting processes.
- Liaisons cross functionally to solution new reporting requirements and drive automation in existing requirements.
- Subject matter expert on Empower's recordkeeping and benefit payment administration systems and integration with SAP. Liaison with Accounting Operations to ensure proper mapping and maintenance between source systems and general ledger.
- Partners with other teams within Insurance Accounting to address business challenges and initiatives. Identify data-driven solutions. Drive execution and implementation to resolution.
- Builds and maintain risk mitigation controls for SAP relevant deliverables within Empower's control framework.
- Manage special projects and perform ad hoc data analysis and testing as needed.
- Subject matter expert for account reconciliations utilizing the Blackline reconciliation tool, including best practices for account reconciliation templates, use model and risk mitigation using the Blackline capability set.
- Trains and mentors senior staff in areas of expertise.
- Implements and ensures adherence to technical accounting policies and procedures under the guidance of the Technical Accounting Department.
Education:

Minimum of 8-10+ years of multi basis accounting experience in progressive roles. Public Accounting experience preferred. Excellent executive presence and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong executive presence and analytical skills. Understands data model and works to optimize into streamlining opportunities for IFRS 9 and NAIC Regulatory (Bluebook) reporting. Works closely with Bluebook reporting team to offer data-driven solutions. Ability to independently manage department workload and proactively identify, lead and execute projects as necessary. Demonstrates strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g, management, peers and other colleagues). Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Teams). Works well with cross-functional teams staffing model. Lead and guide accounting staff and deliver managerial review to department leadership

Base Salary Range $98,900.00 - $139,700.00
The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
