The purpose of this position is to facilitate the provision of recreational activities for City of Allen and surrounding area residents. This is accomplished by providing numerous forms of customer service at the Senior Recreation Center. Other duties may include registering citizens for classes, activities, processing POS transactions, registering citizens for membership, assisting in opening and closing duties, maintaining the facility, providing various administrative services and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Plans, creates, coordinates, and implements Parks & Recreation special events by negotiating vendor contracts, obtaining required licenses and permits, overseeing volunteers, event staff and equipment, answering public questions, resolving problems/unforeseen issues at events, and working with marketing to market events.
  • Coordinates program and event planning by researching and implementing programs, problem-solving, coordinating event tasks, communicating through email and meetings, representing the City to various community groups, and developing evaluation tools to evaluate program quality.
  • Identifies and implements pre-and post-event planning, monitors event budget, develops short- and long-term goals, and designs event structure and logistics.
  • Ensures procurement policies are adhered to by vendors by verifying transaction information and ensuring vendor payments..
  • Collaborates with marketing personnel to identify and develop event marketing plans and strategies, and promotes events and programs by presenting presentations.
  • Assists with selecting, coordinating, and monitoring professional services and contractors.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of relevant work expereince; OR
  • Associate's degree plus six (6) years of relevant work expereince; OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus ten (10) years of relevant work expereince

Certification and Other Requirements

  • Valid Class C Drivers License.
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certification within the first ninety (90) days of employment.
Work Schedule
  • Minimum of 40 hours per week; hours may vary by special event.
  • Some nights and weekends are required.
Overall Physical Strength Demands
  • Medium - Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

Supplemental Information

Reading

Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math
Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing
Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Managerial
Receives general directions. The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. The employee may choose the appropriate procedure or policy. Performance is reviewed periodically.

Supervisory / Organizational Control
Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
