We are seeking a deeply curious, strategic thinker to join our Global Vaccines Competitive Intelligence team. In this role, you will focus on key competitors and cross-cutting projects to build a comprehensive understanding of competitor strategies and market level opportunities.

You will be a key cross-functional partner to our commercial, medical and R&D organizations, and act as an objective strategic advisor based on your deep expertise in current and future competitive drivers in the pharmaceutical market. The primary focus is on vaccines, and you must understand how vaccines fit into overall business and corporate strategy, bringing an external market perspective that can help shape our portfolio and strategies.

This is a high visibility role, with opportunity to connect with a broad array of internal stakeholders and senior leadership. It is imperative to have excellent communication skills (written, verbal), leadership presence and ability to foster relationships in a matrixed organization. You must have a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, market dynamics, and trends driven by or influencing the industry. You can glean meaningful insights from a multitude of sources, connect the dots and generate a big picture market view. Additionally, you must stay on top of cross-cutting industry trends to identify topics that CI should further explore that may lead to big opportunities or mitigation of threats.

The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter, passionate to better understand the external market environment. You must be able to execute independently but also work in collaboration with many teams. You will need to be comfortable with, and appropriately able to manage, ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.

In this role you will...

  • Partner - You will partner with a broad array of stakeholders from numerous functions, bringing objective, independent thinking, and be able to assess and communicate the relevance of CI insights to each team and leadership. Further, you will scope, structure and lead projects both individually, and with external agencies and knowledge resources.
  • Analysis - Collect and synthesise internal and external data with expert use of a wide range of information sources to derive proactive, timely and actionable competitive insight. Analyse complex problems and situations to anticipate and develop potential scenarios. Design and lead strategic initiatives based on a thorough understanding of internal and external business issues, using robust CI sources and innovative methodologies as needed.
  • Recommendations - Use expertise on current and future competitive drivers in the marketplace to make critical recommendations from your analysis, relating impact on our ability to be competitive. Proactively propose new or further areas of analysis that are relevant to our business strategies.
  • Rapid Key Event Coverage - Shape and direct coverage of key events relevant for your area, ensuring effective integration, consolidation and rapid communication of analyses and insights. Help develop systems/processes that can enable fast response to unplanned/ad hoc analysis.
  • CI Capabilities - Working with the Head of Competitive Intelligence, contribute to and help shape evolution of the team to develop best-in-class CI capabilities, and increase the value of CI to GSK.
  • Indirect Team -Manage workflow and capabilities of the broader resource structure supporting the CI team. Lead and coach these resources on high, focused performance, optimising the team to deliver maximum value.
  • External Research - Engage third party agencies as appropriate and ensure all CI research activities are conducted within appropriate GSK code of conduct, compliance and ethical business practices.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications, Skill and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Extensive experience within the healthcare, pharmaceuticals (commercial background) and/or strategic consultancy
  • Functional experience in providing actionable intelligence and insights, gained either directly within a pharmaceutical company or from within a relevant healthcare CI, benchmarking, investment or consulting environment
  • Strong understanding of macro market and industry trends
  • Good understanding of medicine/vaccine development and commercialisation process, including activities from preclinical through marketing of a product, and business knowledge of pharmaceutical/vaccine companies and their business practices
  • Excellent ability to condense significant amounts of complex information into sharp, succinct and impactful deliverables
  • Experienced in matrix environment with ability to build strong relationships and drive impact across a range of functions, seniority, and geographical locations
  • Track record of end-to-end project delivery

Preferred Qualifications, Skill and Experience:

  • Ph.D. or MBA - scientific field.
  • Deep understanding of and experience in multiple vaccines indications that can be applied to competitive intelligence
  • Proven ability to challenge, influence and support senior stakeholders
